Our client, a major general contracting firm with diversified business interests within its holding group, has been awarded the project to develop a food processing production facility at the Doha Port for the extraction and processing of oil, rice, salt and sugar. This firm is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of a major food processing and storage facility that is vital to the expansion and development of Doha. We are now consigned to recruit key start up roles and for this role we seek a Port Equipment Specialist in Doha Qatar. This role is responsible to oversee the design, procurement and construction of major port equipment required for the food processing facility in times of its uses and functions.

This role will be responsible for the following:
• Plan loading and unloading of cargo
• Preparation and management of the design and usability of port equipment and systems for cargo movement.
• Operate equipment to move cargo
• Control equipment movement in response to hand signals or radio commands by supervisor or signaler
• Conduct pre-and post-operation checks on equipment
• Prepare worksite for cargo operations
• Handle gantry operations
• Propose initiatives to enhance workflows and productivity
• Ensure compliance with Workplace Safety and Health policies, procedures and regulations
• Comply with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) policies, procedures and regulations
• Ensure use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when operating equipment
• Oversee the management and development of port team
• Coach and manage staff in the correct use of equipment
• Monitor performance of Equipment Specialists in the use of equipment
• Lead improvements to enhance efficiency
• Propose workflow improvements to improve efficiency
• Assist with implementation of workflow improvements to improve efficiency
• Certifies the maximum usage of port equipment and measures the performance of the machinery for use within the food production facility environment.
• Ensure that the port equipment will function at its optimum level to achieve efficiency in terms of work load and work flow as well as to safety standards.
• Propose workflow improvements to enhance the productivity and efficiency of port operations.
• Overall specification and design of port equipment including technical advice in terms of trouble shooting in terms of malfunction and breakdown.

Requirements

• Degree in the field of chemistry, industrial management, physics or relevant science or engineering related subject.
• 15 years’ experience in the food processing industry with 10 years’ experience in port equipment's design, procurement and construction on major industrial and building projects.
• Significant experience of working on major construction projects in the MENA region is highly regarded.
• Strong communicator and can manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Candidates with expatriate experience ideally in the Middle East would be highly regarded.
