Our client, a major general contracting firm with diversified business interests within its holding group, has been awarded the project to develop a food processing production facility at the Doha Port for the extraction and processing of oil, rice, salt and sugar. This firm is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of a major food processing and storage facility that is vital to the expansion and development of Doha. We are now consigned to recruit key start up roles and this role is for a Port Operations Specialist in Doha Qatar. This role is responsible to manage and coordinate the logistics and operation activities (loads and discharging) of vessels to Doha Port to the Food processing facility to meet program schedules.

This role will be responsible for the following:

Port Operations
- Oversee and manage the operations of the food production facility from Port and actively implement business processes to continue growth and profitability.
- Ensures carrier expectations are met for a professional and safe environment and for on-time arrivals and departures.
- Implements company practices and policies to meet company objectives.
- Work with senior management to ensure all company practices, standards, and budgetary targets are met.
- Ensures proper scheduling of Supervisors, Leads, and Agents to meet resource needs.
- Monitors employees’ actual hours versus budgeted production hours.
- Track all port expenses to ensure that expenses are consistent with approval budgets.
- Manage budgets and cost control procedures.
- Works with the customers and stakeholders to meet all program schedules.
- Perform incident investigations and manage all safety programs.
- Schedules routine company activities including management of port teams.
- Supervises vessel planning activities prior to the ship arriving to port.
- Ensures the load and discharge is performed accurately and timely.
- Acts as a focal point for any port issues that may arise with assigned vessel.

Review Financial Reports
- Review P&L and purchase Journals for accuracy.
- Review aging with collections and Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Report weekly contractor fuel reports.
- Check routes given match mileage and tolls on Tariff.

Customer Management
- Work closely with Customers and Dispatch to make sure every truck is utilized every day.
- Ensure all service failures and issues are tracked.
- Verify all work orders are entered in timely manner.
- Train, schedule and performance manage employees.

Drayage Services
- Develop partnerships with outside carries in transportation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with freight forwarders.
- Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach and mentor contracted drivers.
- Ensure our rates are in line with the local competition to maintain a competitive edge.

Requirements

- Degree in a relevant science or engineering related subject ideally in Maritime, Logistics or Transportation.
- 15 years’ experience in the food processing industry with 10 years’ experience in port operations and project experience for similar large projects.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing required with Six Sigma being highly regarded.
- Significant experience of working on major construction projects in the MENA region is highly regarded.
- Strong communicator and can manage multiple tasks concurrently.
