Wood are actively seeking applications for principal pipeline engineer role to support future growth in our expanding business in Qatar.

The projects team focuses on delivering across FEED, pre-FEED, brownfield, and greenfield scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and/or project procedures on safety and quality control within the man-hour, cost, and the project schedule targets.

This is a long-term assignment based in Qatar.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop working drawings, within company and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings to support completion of engineering deliverables
  • Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of material
  • Work on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques
  • Record observations, perform calculations, and prepare reports on assignments
  • Perform layouts, design, and checking work from the basic data supplied
  • Design and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and the application of fundamental engineering principles
  • Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance
  • Identify cost-effective solutions to design problems
  • Assist in the preparation of bid evaluations
  • Design and construct models, prototypes, processes, or equipment; compile and evaluate data, make recommendations, prepare reports
  • Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials, and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design, or construction
  • Generate bill of materials from finished designs
  • At more experienced levels, act as coordinator on small projects, prepare specifications for complex equipment, processes, etc.
  • Ensure quality in design, technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, etc., including reviewing othersu2019 work at more senior levels
  • Plan assigned work effectively and obtain/provide information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man-hours and achieve targets
  • Carry out site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports

  • Degree qualification in mechanical engineering, and preferably a chartered member of a relevant professional body or institution
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in oil and gas post-graduation
  • Familiarity with the following codes: API, ISO, and ASME
  • Familiarity with standards of major oil companies particularly Shell DEPs
  • Flexible attitude, with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate within Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate a good level of written and spoken communication skills in the English language
  • Should also be able to work independently
  • Be willing and able to represent Wood in both onshore and offshore surveys, holding relevant certification or willing to undertake suitable training such as BOSIET and H2S awareness
