Senior CAD Operator

About the role

Company is currently seeking a highly skilled senior CAD operator to join our team in Qatar. This role is integral to the successful delivery of engineering projects, particularly within the oil & gas sector. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical drafting capabilities, deep familiarity with major operator standards, and proficiency in AutoCAD and Microstation.

Key responsibilities

• Apply CAD techniques to produce working drawings in accordance with company and industry standards and codes.
• Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings (solid and surface modeling), including views, sections, and dimensional data for installation, fabrication, and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to interpret specifications and modify diagrams for clarity and usability.
• Work within a small project team under the supervision of a design engineer, with individual responsibility for specific project areas.
• Confidently read, modify, and develop drawings across all engineering disciplines with support from relevant engineers.
• Check 2D drawings across disciplines to ensure compliance with client drafting standards prior to issuance.
• Interpret equations, calculations, and written instructions from engineers and designers to initiate CAD drawings.
• Use appropriate notations and symbols to convey instructions on technical drawings.
• Assist engineers by preparing project-specific computer-generated working drawings.
• Provide technical drafting support, plot data from direction, and compile engineering data from drawings or field notes.
• Create as-built or revised designs from existing drawings as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum ISCED level 3 education; ISCED level 4 or 5.
• Technical CAD training and certifications in AutoCAD and Microstation.

Experience & skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience working on oil & gas projects in Qatar.
• Minimum 3 years of experience on major operator projects.
• In-depth knowledge of major operator standard for development of technical drawings (QP-ENG-STD-018).
• Highly proficient in AutoCAD and Microstation.
• Familiarity with engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, principles, and material properties.
• Proficient in preparing CAD detail and assembly drawings, including material take-offs.
• Capable of gathering dimensional and technical data from operating facilities.
• Skilled in applying 2D CAD techniques and converting verbal and written information into accurate drawings.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Strong communication, numeracy, and IT skills.
