Senior Civil Structural Engineer

Job description / Role

Overview:

We are looking to hire a senior civil/structural engineer for an oil and gas operator in Doha, Qatar. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 yearsu2019 experience in structural design and construction, preferably in the oil and gas industry. Fluency in English is a must.

Key responsibilities:

Conduct civil/structural engineering activities throughout all stages of the assigned projects.
Check and review all project drawings and documents (civil, structural, specifications, calculations, and proposed materials) submitted by others in accordance with the project scope, specifications, and applicable standards.
Participate and aid in projects pre-commissioning, commissioning, and hand-over activities.
Review and evaluate the contract changes/variation to approved guidelines and applicable codes, standards, and practices; make recommendations for approval or rejection of technical deviations.
Review and approve method statements developed by contracted organizations for scope compliance.
Liaise with contracted organizations to resolve technical issues.
Lead technical team and assist senior project engineer for all technical matters related to the assigned projects.
Coordinate with appointed Qatar registered consultant (QRC), responsible for construction management and construction supervision, as required.
Conduct evaluation of technical bid packages for scope compliance.
Plan and coordinate activities of a team of multidiscipline engineers for providing timely delivery of technical services to meet the project requirements.
Coordinate engineering designs, develop and review multi-disciplinary work scopes for projects and other engineering activities. Ensure that the work scope is comprehensive and clear.
Support the development of personal technical competency and skills and those of co-workers.
Participate in structured training for associate engineers.
Ability to work in multi-discipline/cultural environment.
Ability to resolve technical challenges related to civil/structural engineering work and adjacent discipline issues.

Requirements:

• Bacheloru2019s degree or equivalent degree in civil engineering.
• Masteru2019s degree in structural engineering.
• Excellent knowledge of engineering and structural design experience.
• Professional engineer registered with reputable international professional engineering institution will be an added advantage.
• Minimum 10 yearsu2019 experience in structural design and construction, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
• Minimum 10 yearsu2019 experience in structural design and construction in large buildings and civil/infrastructure projects, including at least 6 yearsu2019 experience at supervisory level.
• Previous experience in water retaining structures and dewatering.
• Good knowledge in construction activities and project management.
• Skill and knowledge of international and local standards including BS, EN, ASTM, and QCS related to the area of expertise.
• Experience in projectsu2019 pre-commissioning, commissioning, and hand-over activities.
• Possess good communication and presentation skills.
• Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
• Computer literate in mainstream MS Office products and structural design packages.
