Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Role Objectives:
- To ensure delivery of highway design within the agreed programme and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations.
- To liaise and coordinate the disciplines serving the highway design (e.g. drainage, signage, structures etc..) in an effective manner.
- To interface with the Client on daily basis and provide appropriate solutions to design problems
- To represent Arcadis in design coordination meetings in a professional manner and level expected for the role.
- To deliver the contractual scope and raise design changes in a timely manner

- The role requires experience with either Qatari QHDM and/or DMRB (UK) as well as in applying for Departures from Standards so in depth knowledge of the standards and ability to put across sound arguments backed with sound engineering judgment is a requirement.
- Ability to work on concept highway designs, design options and solutions
- Ability to work independently and provide technical directions to engineers and technicians working under him

Responsibilities:
- Performing required activities associated with projects in line with the Project Specification, national standards and codes of practice
- Preparing and registering all relevant documentation and design reports and ensuring that all documentation is current, accurate and in compliance with Hyder requirements
- Maintaining ongoing communication with relevant Project Leaders/Team Leaders, and clients when required, to ensure effective communications on matters relevant to the project
- Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members
- Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
- Reviewing completed engineering work to ensure accuracy
- Awareness of ,and familiarity with, the commercial aspects of projects to develop commercial skills
- To be familiar with, and compliant with, relevant Health & Safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line manager

Specific Project Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the technical delivery of highway design (including initiating new concept designs for additional work that is outside the project current scope) as directed by the Design Manager
- Direct and be responsible for engineers and technician working under your supervision
- Meet the design programme targets
- This is a site based role and requires attendance in site office 48 hours per week Saturday to Thursday
- Attend internal and client meetings (if required) and provide advice and solutions to technical problems
- Taking a proactive approach to resolving technical issues
- Comply with the project’s specific Design and Quality Plans
- Refer any issues having commercial impact promptly to the PM and the Commercial Manager

Requirements

- Minimum 10 years experience on highway design projects out of which a minimum 2 years construction supervision and preferably experience on D&B project.
- BSc degree
- Member of Professional Engineering Institution PE(USA) or MICE (UK), or equivalent
- Experience at a team leader level
- Sound engineering judgment
- Works independently
- Experience with British Design Standards and QHDM
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
