Senior Occupational Health & Safety Compliance Officer - Qatar Airways - Doha

We are looking to hire a talented Senior Occupational Health and Safety Compliance Officer [SOHSCO], to oversee and conduct day-to-day activities in line with the Qatar Airways Occupational Health and Safety [OHS] Manual, which includes health and safety audits and general health and safety inspection within the Company as well as external agencies that are subcontracted to Qatar Airways.

You will partner with the Senior Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, in overseeing OHS Compliance Checks. You will monitor compliance and adequacy of procedures required to ensure safe operational practices required by Qatar Airways Occupational Health and Safety Manual, Qatar Labour Law and International Legislation for all Outstation staff. You are required to carry out health & safety compliance checks across the Qatar Airways Group, contractor activities and prepare reports on levels of compliance.

You will participate in recommending and implementing changes to Qatar Airways Occupational Health and Safety Manual, policies methodology and systems for conducting OHS compliance checks. You will participate in investigations of accidents, incidents and near misses. You will participate in the preparation of Qatar Airways OHS Management system accreditation and an integrated OHS management system, to help maintain accreditation when achieved.

You will oversee the internal Compliance Check programme and auditing function of Group Safety – OHS Team that incorporates Qatar Labour Law, International Labour Laws, Qatar Airways internal processes & procedures, industry best practices and risk management mechanisms, including: compliance check planning, document control, evidence gathering and audit reports. You will plan and control the annual OHS Compliance schedule, conduct and follow-up independent safety compliance checks across all departments within QR Group in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Manual.

You must govern the conduct of opening and closing meetings with Nominated Post Holders / Senior Management personnel from within QR Group Companies in relation to Compliance Checks planned / accomplished. You will provide quarterly summary of the Compliance Checks, where required. You will lead the follow-up of all recommendations made during accident / incident investigations with respective departmental representatives until closure. You will be responsible for verification of external findings issued by regulatory authorities (HSE-UK / OSHA-USA, etc.) and follow-up with respective Stakeholders within Qatar Airways for identification of a root cause(s), development, evaluation and implementation of corrective actions as appropriate in operational areas until closure.

You will communicate clearly and unambiguously with senior management internally and externally, Compliance Check results and work towards development and implementation of corrective/ preventative action. You will take responsibility for your own on-going personal development and growth of expertise. Train and develop other employees, for proper succession planning and risk management. You are required to assist in response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Qatar Airways or its subsidiaries.

You will perform other duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department. You will ensure all non-conformances are logged and tracked through the Aviation Quality Database and ensure effective management of data derived from the quality assurance programme to include providing a monthly summary report of all completed Compliance Checks. As a subject matter expert [SME], you can be called upon to perform Compliance Checks as and when required by Senior Management.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. You must be a certified OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor from a recognised international standard. NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety or international equivalent is a mandatory requirement for this role. You should be a Specialist with minimum 5 years of job related experience.

You should have experience as an OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor preferably within the aviation industry. Prior Aviation Auditor experience is highly desired. You must have a strong knowledge of international Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice. You must have strong interpersonal and investigative skills, and conflict resolution abilities with a strong command for details.

You should also have the ability to delegate work, set clear direction along with strong mentoring and coaching skills. Fluency in both spoken and written English and capable of writing clear factual reports to a very high standard is required.

Diplomacy and Commitment while always remaining aware of the latest industry developments related to aviation safety is essential. You must possess a critical and analytic mind with a view to standardize procedures attributed to safety of operations. Project Management experience is an added advantage.
