Job description / Role
The main duties of the Structural Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Review contract documents and construction drawings to identify any anomalies/conflicts
- Review completed design and assist in co-ordination with other disciplines to ensure constructability
- Provide calculations for minor modifications where required.
- Undertake high level review and checking of structural calculations and drawings produced by other offices within the business for the purpose of this project
- Review contractor calculations and designs where applicable and provide suitable comments.
- Supervise contractor’s works and maintain QA documentation and associated registers.
- Review and comment on relevant contractor submissions (Document and Material)
- Prepare responses to RFI’s.
- Review Relevant Contractor Shop Drawings
- Attend inspections as required, supporting Site Inspectors as necessary.
- Liaise with all parties for site safety, and follow up identified risks.
- Prepare documentation for the completed works for client Handover.
- Provide all necessary on-site direction and issue site instructions as required by the RE.
- Ensure all material testing is carried out in accordance with the specification.
- Report to Chief Resident Engineer\Resident Engineers and update on issues as required.
- Participate in planning, risk identification & assist in resolution of issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of records, including As Built documentation.
- Check instructions are being carried out.
- Keep up to date with International standards.
- Specifically manage the structural aspects of the project, in co-ordination with other discipline engineers.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a relevant Degree Certificate in appropriate Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering discipline from a recognised Tertiary Institution.
- Minimum of Fifteen (15) years postgraduate experience
- Minimum of ten (12) years experience as a Structural Engineer in similar projects
- Knowledge of local design standards
- Preference will be given to staff with experience in water-retaining structures and pump stations, preferably with interdisciplinary co-ordination.
- Past experience shall include successfully completing a previous position as Structural Engineer on a Project of similar nature and scope of work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- An ability to identify potential problems and propose solutions
- Ability to team build, organise staff and prioritise works
- Ability to work well within and lead a site based team of mixed nationalities
- Experience in Microsoft applications Ability to build rapport with work colleagues.
