Direct reports:
Overview: Responsible for welding execution plan, method statement. Identify welding machine requirement at site, welder deployment, monitor performance of welder.
Primary functions:
- Report to welding engineer / construction manager.
- Lead and control welding foremen, supervisors, and welders engaged in all activities related to welding processes.
- Optimize resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) to ensure efficient and timely completion of the works. Set and measure daily targets (dia inch per day) for supervisors and welders.
- Team leadership and supervision: lead and coordinate welding crews and foremen to execute daily tasks, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and conducting toolbox talks to promote safety and productivity. Assist in resolving conflicts, mentoring junior staff, and fostering a positive work environment.
- Plan welding sequences and manage inventory of consumables and equipment.
- Ensure that required welding equipment, cables, machines, ovens, etc., are available at site to perform the tasks.
- Ensure that all welding equipment is in satisfactory working condition. Identify and return any faulty equipment that can hamper work performance.
- Provide welding expertise in the development of specific welding procedures or requirements related to piping and structural welding.
- Ensure optimum utilization of welding equipment in workshop and site, welding consumables, monitoring and reporting of wastages, and maintaining compliance with welding consumable handling procedures.
- Provide backup to the foreman for managing and handling projects including providing technical advice as required.
- Ensure that qualified welders are available at site. Provide guidance and direction to welders and monitor welder performance.
- Ensure that all work is carried out to the required quality in the best possible manner and within the guidelines of industry's best engineering practices.
- Provide feedback during the retaining process on good welders (welders who can produce less repair work and can weld with both hands - left/right).
- Initiate, coordinate, and enforce production, safety, and quality system policies and procedures.
Qualifications / experience:
Diploma / degree with a minimum of 10 years site experience in oil and gas fields welding in jackets, platforms, offshore structures using various welding processes like GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, SAW in semi-automatic and automation methods.
Specific skills and knowledge:
- FCAW process experience is a must in offshore structure welding and knowledge of other processes like GTAW, SMAW, SAW in piping and structure.
- Good knowledge of welding equipment and automation.
- Experience in site execution, problem solving, and welder training.
- Welding equipment knowledge, operate modern welding processes and equipment, train welders and foremen.
