Rigger Level 3

The course teaches the proper use and pre-use inspection of rigging gear, slings and below-the-hook lifting devices and rejection criteria so they are capable of recognizing damaged gear and removing it from service before it creates an unsafe condition. Personnel learn how to perform periodic inspections that includes how the accumulation of minor issues may result in unsafe equipment.

• Identification and application of sling types.
• Identification and application of rigging hardware and hooks.
• Identification and application of below-the-hook lifting devices.
• Pre-use inspection and removal criteria of slings and rigging hardware.
• How to identify the working load limits for all slings and rigging gear.
• The effects of sling angle tension created from bridle hitch configurations.
• Load balance and center of gravity.
• Know and understand requirements to keep clear of the load.
• Know and understand dangers of working around energized power lines.
• Know specific regulations required for the rigger
• Know and exercise standard communication signals
• Understanding regulations pertaining to rigging gear inspection and rejection criteria.
• Identification of load rated and non-load rated components.
• How to identify rigging gear deficiencies and common causes of gear damage.
• Evaluation of rigging gear to regulatory and/or manufacturer’s rejection criteria.
• Load testing requirements/methods.
• Proper recording of inspection findings.
