Job overview

The British International School Jeddah (BISJ) is a prestigious co-educational international school in Saudi Arabia, with a proud 48-year history of excellence. It offers a vibrant and inclusive learning environment, a rich co-curricular programme, and an impressive record of outstanding student outcomes, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing.

Join a school where students are supported to flourish and thrive. An environment where students are empowered as lifelong learners with the skills, knowledge and attributes to excel. Innovative teaching within a robust British curriculum provides a stimulating environment for both educators and learners.

We are currently recruiting an exceptional and strategic educator for the role of Assistant Head Teacher (Curriculum & Assessment) – Primary Section and Club Leader.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to support the implementation, coordination, and review of a high-quality curriculum and assessment framework that promotes excellent teaching and learning outcomes across the Primary Section. The role combines significant teaching responsibilities (approximately 20 lessons per week) with operational leadership in assessment coordination, data management, and curriculum mapping.

Key responsibilities

The Assistant Head Teacher will work closely with the Primary Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teachers, focusing on the following core areas:

  • Curriculum implementation: Support the implementation and review of a coherent, progressive, and enriching Primary curriculum. This includes collaborating with Year Group and Subject Leaders to ensure consistency in planning and documentation.
  • Assessment coordination & data management: Coordinate assessment policies and lead the scheduling, collection, and checking of assessment data in line with school timelines. This involves managing data entry, quality assurance, and supporting leaders in data analysis to inform planning and interventions.
  • Reporting & moderation: Coordinate the operational delivery of student reporting systems and manage the practical organisation of the Parent-Teacher-Student Conference (PTSC) process. Lead or co-lead moderation and assessment workshops for staff.
  • General leadership: Actively contribute to leadership and management meetings, monitor teaching and learning standards, and lead the induction of new staff.
  • Enrichment & extra-curricular activities (ECA): Coordinate the Primary Extra-Curricular Activities Programme, ensuring it complements and extends the taught curriculum. All teaching staff are also required to lead the running of an Extra Curricular Activity for 30 sessions per academic year.

Qualifications and experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education or a related field (required).
  • Significant experience as a successful teacher in the Primary age range is required, as the role carries approximately 20 lessons per week of teaching responsibility.
  • Proven leadership experience in curriculum implementation, assessment, or data management in a school setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence colleagues across different professional backgrounds.
  • A commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality in all matters dealing with students, parents, and staff.
  • Actively promote and adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety and safeguarding.
  • A strong set of values that align with our BISJ vision and mission.

Preferred attributes

  • Proven ability to be proactive in the development of the role, identifying and implementing strategies that improve the Primary Section's organisation and efficiency.
  • Exceptional capacity to manage a demanding workload, effectively balancing the significant teaching commitment (20 lessons per week) with operational leadership duties.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by maintaining an awareness of educational research and trends to inform school development and curriculum delivery.

Why join BISJ?

  • To work in a leading international school, with a diverse and motivated staff and student body.
  • The opportunity to thrive in a culturally rich and diverse international community that celebrates differences and cultivates respectful, empathetic global citizens.
  • To grow as a professional through a world-class professional development programme with leading global experts supported by a generous CPD budget.
  • Supportive and collegial staff environment with an excellent remuneration and benefits package.
  • A chance to live and work in the vibrant and welcoming city of Jeddah, recently rated the second best city for quality of life in the Arab world.
  • Be part of a prestigious British international school with over 48 years of excellence, combining strong British educational values with a broad international outlook.

If you are an experienced and dynamic educator ready to take on a key leadership role in curriculum and assessment in a thriving Primary section, we would love to hear from you.

BISJ prioritises safer recruitment and child safeguarding, aligning with UK Keeping Children Safe in Education, the recommendations of The International Task Force On Child Protection, and other international standards. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will undergo thorough background checks, including written and verbal references; qualification verification; identity and police checks, including overseas checks.

Application process

Applications should include the BISJ application form, a full CV, and a cover letter outlining your experience and suitability for the role. Applicants must highlight and explain any gaps in employment, providing relevant details where applicable.

Applicants are required to provide three professional referees, including their most recent Head Teacher or Principal. References will be requested for shortlisted candidates prior to interview, in line with BISJ’s safer recruitment procedures.

The school reserves the right to make an earlier appointment should a suitable candidate be identified.

Data protection (PDPL)

In accordance with the Saudi Arabian Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), BISJ will process applicants’ personal information securely and confidentially, using it solely for recruitment purposes and only sharing it with authorised individuals involved in the selection process.
