Enabling Works Director

Job description / Role

Our Global Project Management Consultancy client has a new requirement for a well experienced Enabling Works Director to join their team in Tabuk, KSA. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Director of Enabling Works on major projects in the Kingdom and or wider GCC. Preference will be given to profiles with a track record of delivering enabling works packages on giga-projects including but not limited to:

Earthworks – removal and relocation of 200 million cubic meters of material
Piling – construction of over 15,000 piles using 3 million cubic meters of concrete
Dewatering – installation, operations and maintenance of the world’s largest dewatering scheme with a max output of 90,000 cubic meters per hour
Site Preparation – design and construction of infrastructure including construction roads; utilities; welfare; and logistics areas for fabrication and precast facilities.

This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent opportunity, employed by our client.

Key Responsibilities

The works scope covers pre-construction design, tendering of construction packages and stakeholder interface as well as construction delivery.

The team you will lead is a diverse group of approximately 70 engineers and construction professionals consisting of Saudi nationals, Middle Eastern resources and Western expats. This is likely to grow to c.100.

• Delivery oversight and control of multiple contractors with a focus on key project management measures of safety, quality, cost and time.
• Planning of future works to meet schedule requirements and area handover to follow-on construction packages. This includes scheduling and cost forecasting.
• Management and delivery of pre-construction activities such as design management, approvals and tendering for future Work Orders.
• Optimisation of the on-site interfaces between all site activities to ensure safe working and maximise productivity
• Reporting progress plus proactively responding to challenges in delivery and changes in project requirements in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Providing industry-leading expertise to support and help upskill the contractors’ delivery leading to improvements in how they work that they can use in this job and for future work in the Kingdom
• Plan, lead, control and report on a portfolio of Work Orders totalling SAR 5-10bn pa. Accountable for cost and schedule performance
• A clear focus on, and visible leadership of, excellence in construction delivery, especially in health, safety, welfare and collaboration.
• Ability to strategically plan, balancing the competing priorities from the different areas of construction you are responsible for, and flexibly to respond to change. Able to constructively challenge established delivery plans to drive value for money and best for project outcomes
• Strong communication, explanation and influencing skills to present to senior leadership and respond to challenges and change. Able to manage up as well as down and drive decision making
• A drive for continuous improvement, covering on-site delivery and pre-construction planning and development
• Strengths in stakeholder management and finding mutually beneficial solutions to interface issues
• Organisational planning and line management for a large team from three suppliers. Supporting their career development and delivery performance.

Enabling Works Director Experience:

• Degree in Engineering with a Master’s in Business or related field preferred.
• Chartered Engineer Status preferred.
• Minimum of 25 years of experience delivering major projects, with a proven track record in the Middle East.
• Proven leadership qualities with a strategic mindset
• Proven track record of delivering projects in the ME working with a multiculture workforce.
• Proven track record of safety management and innovation in the engineering and construction industry.
• Has a working understanding of the constant changing environment of mega projects in KSA with the flexibility to adapt accordingly with a “best of Project” attitude.

Salary:
SAR 75,000 to 95,000 per month inclusive of fixed allowances.
