FAT Engineer

Job description / Role

- Experienced in managing Factory Acceptance Tests
- Evaluate new test technologies and methods.
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principals, practices and procedures of power system automation and related SEL products in order to complete difficult assignments.
- Expert in software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices
- Train and support customers with the installation, commissioning and operation of automation and protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
- Determine Design for Test (DFT) specifications and coordinate with engineering staff on new product design.
- Design, develop, and maintain test strategies for new and existing products.
- Train production testing staff in function, design, and maintenance of all testing processes on the production floor.
- Document, report and solve technical issues and malfunctions and identify/analyze any undesirable trends.
- Collaborate with other SEL marketing, sales, application engineering and development activities.
- Gather and analyze test data to improve test coverage and efficiencies.

- Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

- BSEE or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience designing and developing production tests
- Excellent writing and speaking skills
- Experience with applicable programming languages
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- Ability to work cooperatively in team environment
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL
- Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in electronic design, manufacturing and testing
- Skill in design and construction of test fixtures
- Experience in writing test procedures and test documentation
- Experience working in project teams
- Electrical utility, consulting or system integrator experience
- Strong knowledge of protective relay applications and/or automation applications
- Knowledge of SEL relays
