Job Description

The welding inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding activities meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. This role involves inspection, documentation, and verification of welding procedures, welder qualifications, and weld quality to maintain compliance with safety and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with project drawings, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), and applicable codes (ASME, AWS, API, ISO, etc.).
  • Verify materials, consumables, and equipment are in accordance with approved specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspection of welds and coordinate NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) activities such as RT, UT, MT, and PT.
  • Review and verify welder qualification records and maintain welder performance logs.
  • Ensure proper documentation of inspection results, including weld maps, repair records, and daily reports.
  • Identify and report any non-conformances and assist in corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support welding procedure qualification tests and maintain records.
  • Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors, and contractors regarding welding quality issues.
  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance during inspection and welding activities.
  • Participate in audits, quality meetings, and project reviews as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Certified welding inspector (CWI / CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in welding inspection within industries such as oil & gas, fabrication, power plant, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (ASME, AWS, API, ISO).
  • Familiar with NDT methods and interpretation of test results.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and report-writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and QA/QC documentation systems.
