Lead Civil Engineer

Key Areas of Responsibility

The priorities of this role include:
• Reports and is responsible to the Technical Director/ Chief Engineer technically, strategically, and tactically for the development and performance of the civil teams throughout FAEC;
• Reports to the designated Project Manager for all day-to-day project issues in respect of the performance of the civil teams;
• Leads the civil engineering teams in the preparation of overall concept, detailed design and working drawings as necessary for the highways, land grading, potable water supply, storm water drainage, foul sewer drainage, irrigation networks, pump stations and rising mains, and structure layouts as necessary for all infrastructure development. The structural aspects of bridges and other structures are to be undertaken by the structural teams and/or specialist sub-consultants;
• Leads, directs, and checks the civil engineering teams in the preparation of the civil design, grading, highway alignment and pipeline models, using industry standard software and ensures that the models, load configurations, connection and joint details are appropriate and correct;
• Leads the coordination and liaison of the civil teams with all other technical disciplines; eg architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation telecom, landscaping, quantity surveying, etc to ensure that the civil design is optimised to accommodate all the infrastructure utilities and there are no clashes between the highways, pipelines, structures, and the utilities;
• Responsible for arranging and managing the civil engineering staffing resources, and training where necessary and appropriate, to satisfactorily deliver the civil engineering solutions;
• Leads and promotes the continuous improvement of the FAEC Quality Management System in respect of all civil engineering work;
• Organises the preparation of civil engineering presentations internally and externally as required to develop the work stream for FAEC;
• Determines whether Client instructions or requests comply technically with the scope of services utilising all relevant information and documentation;
• Ensures requirements of the Client’s project management representatives are adhered to in respect of all technical and contractual aspects including comments and ensures speedy and satisfactory closure by the civil engineering team;
• Provides necessary documentation to enable the Operations/ Commercial Manager and Project Manager to discuss any issues with the Client arising from civil engineering disputes where necessary;
• Ensures all civil engineering staff satisfactorily and correctly record all time inputs in the appropriate job codes for time capture for budget and commercial monitoring purposes;
• Assists the Project Manager and Operations/ Commercial Manager in the preparation of Change Notices on the design scope of work where appropriate and necessary;
• Monitors performance of individual design packages and advises the Project Manager and Operations/ Commercial Manager of the necessary actions to ensure that they meet or exceed the financial targets for the packages;
• Assists the Project Manager and Operations/ Commercial Manager with debts and major claims for extra fees;
• Deal with any other duties that may be reasonably assigned from time to time by the Technical Director/ Chief Engineer, Operations/ Commercial Manager and Project Manager.

• Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university and a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from a leading university preferred;
• Further Qualifications: Extensive knowledge and experience in preparing layouts and designs in CIVIL 3D, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and working in BIM a requirement;
• Proven experience in developing and improving civil engineering aspects of a Quality System fully compliant with ISO 9001: 2015.
