Aviation Machinist (MR)

Description:

Provides intermediate and depot-level repair for the structural, mechanical, avionics, and engine component programs for aircraft and aircraft engine weapons systems. Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines, shapers, planers, internal/external grinders, thread cutters, and radial drills.

Essential Responsibilities :
- Set up and perform machining operations on conventional lathes and CNC machine tools such as grinders, milling machines, lathes, Quackenbush and drills.
- Must be able set up and operate 2,3,4, and 5 axis machining centers and CNC grinders.
- Must be familiar with the use of a variety of machine tool attachments or related equipment to perform precision machine work.
- Maintain accuracy in accordance with requirements of blueprints, drawings, sketches, work documents, aircraft technical documents, manuals, bulletins, and directives.
- Produce assigned work in accordance with established standards.
- Perform all work in compliance with all safety rules and regulations in the production shop environment.
- Other Duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- 8 years current or previous experience performing complex helicopter mechanical work to include but not limited to:
- Removes fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft disassembles structural and non-structural metal and composite components. Assesses damaged parts to determine the sequence of operations necessary to affect repairs or replacements.
- Repairs structural parts and skin surfaces of, fuselages, tail section, doors, pilot seats, tail cones, engine cowls, and fairings by straightening, reforming, reshaping, bent, twisted, distorted portions with press brakes, bending rolls, shrinking, stretching machines, and forming blocks.
- Cuts out, removes damaged parts, and inserts new parts or patches. Modifies aircraft, and aircraft components by incorporating airframe changes (AFC), and bulletins. Lay out, cuts, drills, bends, forms, shapes sheet metal and extruded metal stock.
- Uses standard, and special tools of the trade: such as press brakes, metal cutting equipment, forming machines, hydraulic presses, punch presses, turret punches, drill presses.
- Operates more complex hand, and power machines, slip roll forming machines, box/ pan breaks, rotary machines with extra forming rolls, crimpers, beading machines. Completes operations by deburring, filing, drilling, smoothing parts by hand.
- Chemically treats surfaces reworked. Inspect completed assemblies to ensure compliance with technical references.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, etc.
- Skill in the use of a wide variety of complicated hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring instruments, associated with the trade
- Must be able to pass a background check, and drug test. Also, may be required to obtain and maintain a secret clearance

- Must be able to walk, and stand on level, inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day. Also be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
