Job description

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a highly experienced mission critical principal engineer - electrical to join our team. In this role, you will lead end-to-end electrical system design for data centers, ensuring solutions meet rigorous reliability, efficiency, and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Translate client requirements into robust electrical designs, including electrical distribution (medium and low voltage), generator, UPS systems, switchgear, busducts, grounding schemes, power monitoring systems, fire detection and alarm system etc.
  • Produce all technical documentation: calculations, system studies, single-line diagrams, layout drawings, specifications, block schematics, and compliance tables.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed design reviews, leveraging advanced analytical tools, BIM/Revit models, and coordination with architectural, mechanical, and building technology disciplines.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, share best practices in mission-critical electrical systems, and drive continuous improvement across the design team.
  • Collaborate closely with regional and global teams to grow consulting capabilities and ensure alignment with global design standards.
  • Develop and standardize scalable, repeatable data center solutions to drive consistency and efficiencies across UAE and KSA.
  • Conduct site assessments, capacity planning, and feasibility studies aligned with Uptime Institute Tier requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards (Uptime Institute, TIA-942, NFPA, ASHRAE) and local regulations.
  • Drive business growth by contributing to technical proposals, client presentations, and by identifying opportunities for service enhancements.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical experience in planning, designing, and delivering large-scale data centers, including multiple Uptime Tier III/IV projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments.
  • Professional certifications such as Uptime Tier Certified Professional, PMP, LEED AP, or BICSI RCDD are highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of data centres electrical infrastructure, power distribution topologies, servers, storage, network systems, SCADA systems, power management, ELV, and security.
  • Experienced in data center construction phasing and associated design planning.
  • Strong communication skills for effective client presentations, stakeholder workshops, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Familiarity with local and international codes and standards, including NEC, IEC, ISO 50001, ISO 27001, PDPL, and ESMA.
