Oracle And SQL Server Core DBA

Job description / Role

We are seeking an experienced Core Database Administrator with strong expertise in both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database platforms. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring database performance, availability, integrity, and security across business-critical systems. This includes installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, high availability setup, and performance tuning in both environments.

Oracle DBA Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Oracle databases.
• Manage Real Application Clusters (RAC), ASM, and Oracle Data Guard.
• Perform RMAN-based backup and recovery, cloning, and export/import operations.
• Monitor performance using AWR, ADDM, ASH, and OEM (Enterprise Manager).
• Administer users, roles, profiles, tablespaces, and storage.
• Troubleshoot ORA errors, memory issues, and locking/blocking problems.

SQL Server DBA Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server (2000–2019 and above).
• Implement high availability solutions: Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Mirroring.
• Perform backups and restores using native tools or third-party solutions.
• Monitor system performance using SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs.
• Manage SQL Server security, roles, and permissions.
• Create, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Agent jobs and SSIS packages.

Common Core DBA Responsibilities:
• Ensure 24/7 availability and health of production, test, and development environments.
• Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Shell, PL/SQL, T-SQL).
• Implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Collaborate with developers and support teams for query tuning and schema design.
• Maintain and update database documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Conduct audits and support compliance requirements (data protection, access control).

• 10+ years of hands-on DBA experience supporting Oracle and SQL Server.
• Strong expertise in RMAN, OEM, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in PL/SQL, T-SQL, and scripting languages (Shell, PowerShell).
• Solid understanding of high availability, clustering, and replication technologies.
• Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
