Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Saudi Aramco seeks an experienced and recognized petrophysicist to join the Reservoir Engineering Technology Team with the EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The position entails developing, testing, implementing, and deploying new concepts in formation evaluation, reservoir description, and deep diagnostics. The candidate must be able to initiate and lead research projects in reservoir petrophysical applications with specific focus on formation evaluation, multi-phase flow behavior in reservoir rocks, wettability, and saturation modelling. Past experience in petrophysical studies and modelling with a strong track record of field deployment is essential. The position also includes leading technical and multi-disciplinary teams and training junior scientists and engineers. An important aspect of this position is the ability to work closely with our field proponents.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct comprehensive petrophysical studies by integrating logging, core analyses, rock, fluid and production data for formation evaluation and reservoir characterization
- Develop comprehensive petrophysical models for incorporation into static and dynamic reservoir models for history matching and predictions
- Perform original research in petrophysics using computational methods and experiments
- Initiate, develop and deploy new ideas for logging tools, data acquisition, analysis and procedures in terms of cost and technology
- Specific focus on electromagnetic, resistivity modelling, surface chemistry and wettability for the purpose of reservoir monitoring and saturation quantification
- Lead R&D programs. Able to form and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams. Initiate collaborative research with others, both within and outside the company
- Deploy technologies in the field by working closely with our proponents from reservoir management, description, characterization, simulation, and production engineering
- Guide/mentor young professionals in their technical and professional development
- The 'go-to' person in all aspects of petrophysics

Minimum Requirements

PhD in petroleum engineering or a related field (physics, geology...) is required

Minimum of 10 years' experience in a substantive industrial, research, technology environment relevant to the job position

A strong track record of field deployment related to reservoir characterization, modeling, experimental research, data analyses, integration and formation evaluation is essential

Prior experience in special petrophysical studies for modelling properties like relative permeabilities, electrical properties, fluid contacts and distributions is essential

Help building state-of-the-art advanced petrophysics research capabilities, including identifying and commissioning new facilities

Experience in 4IR technologies such as AI, ML and data analytics is a strong plus

Strong commitment to safety and excellent verbal/writing skills

Excellence in research as evidenced by the candidate's history of technical achievements, field deployments, publications (conference and peer-reviewed journals), granted patents, international awards and professional society activities
