Plant Process Engineer (Modelling and Optimisation)

The Jazan IGCC is the world’s largest IGCC and ASU facility producing 2100 MMSCFD syngas, 18,000 MT/Day Oxygen and 4 Gigawatts of power. Facilities and assets include; residue gasification, acid gas clean up (Rectisol), soot ash recovery, sulphur recovery (Claus & Scot), combined cycle power plants, materials handling systems, hydrogen recovery, air separation, water utilities systems and waste water treatment facilities.

We require a Process Engineer with the ability to understand our process and its operational performance through strong first principals knowledge of chemical engineering, process modelling and analysis of plant data. You will use this to understanding to support the production planning process, optimise the operation against the commercial drivers, to identify improvement opportunities and benchmark performance. This will be done in the dynamic environment of facility commissioning and early operation.

Requirements of the Role
• Produce process models of plants and subsystems using excel, process simulation software (with Aspen being the current preferred process simulation software) and other specialist packages
• Improve existing process models, including the assimilation of plant operating/performance test data.
• Produce the tools needed by the Production Planning department to estimate utility usage and feedstock requirements for a given product slate.
• Analyse plant data to identify optimized operating regimes and strategies to meet the commercial objectives, and evaluate the performance of implemented projects.
• Work closely with Operations team, taking feedback, monitoring actual vs advised operating configuration and parameters and providing training.
• Identify the root cause of performance/operability problems in commissioning and early operations through analysis of operating data and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Undertake modelling of both continuous and batch processing units.
• Ability to interpret design documents such as PFD, P&ID, control narratives and operating instructions
• Produce KPI reporting structures for the operations management and planning teams and written reports and presentations of investigations undertaken.
• Work with the Advanced Process Control Team, to identify optimization methods and parameters for controlling to, and to evaluate performance of advanced control routines.

The above experience will have ideally been gained in an operating plant environment or supporting commissioning environment with an EPC/licensor/OEM or as consulting service provider.

Requirements

Required personal Attributes
• The applicant must have a strong safety focus
• Commercial understanding
• Strong communication skills from board operator to plant manager level
• Able to work independently, with the self-confidence to highlight concerns and propose the solutions.
• Able to communicate effectively across different cultural norms and with non-native English speakers.
• Work efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The applicant will have
• A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years' experience, 5 of which is gained in a role related to this position
• Ideally have experience of 1 or more of the process technologies utilised at the Jazan IGCC.
