Principal Mechanical Engineer - Furnace

Job Description

An Engineer with proven experience in the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of Electric Arc Furnaces in the mineral industry. Experience in the making of Phosphorous is highly desirable. A minimum of 15 years of experience in FEED/Detailed Design/PMC is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities will be as follows but may not be limited to
- Review the Furnace FEED design and validate the technical aspects it and also the completeness with respect to the project requirements; identify gaps in the design and report the same.
- Supervises and monitors Contractors' engineering progress.
- Reviews the design scope and deliverables to ensure they comply with relevant codes and standards, health, safety and environmental regulatory requirements.
- Works with other lead discipline engineers to ensure that all interfaces between disciplines are clearly defined and recorded.
- Coordinates with other leaders to ensure that multi-discipline interfaces are properly addressed with resolution of technical issues and conflicting design requirements in a timely manner.
- Provides technical oversight by conducting review of the following deliverables, design reviews and tasks: Equipment Specifications, Equipment Datasheets, Material Requisitions for Quote and Purchase, Technical Bid Evaluations, Inspection and Test Plans, Vendor document review, Inspection reports, etc.
- Coordinates and participates in reviews of Contractors' engineering documents/deliverables within discipline to ensure compliance with the contract requirements, including project procedures, project specifications and applicable codes and standards. Monitors status of Contractor documents reviews for discipline
- Provide necessary support to Equipment list, P&ID, HAZOP/HAZID, Model reviews, studies, etc.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
- Promotes the creation of a work environment supported by leadership which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Years of Experience:
- A relevant Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and a minimum of 15 years of FEED/Detailed Design/PMC experience in mineral/metallurgical industry

Key Skills & Technical Competencies:
- Knowledge & understanding of Design practices, Construction Practices and Procedures relating to Electric furnace and its auxiliaries.
- Wide knowledge in the field installation and commissioning of Electric Furnace and its auxiliaries.
- Proficient knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials
