Description
ADULT BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT UNIT (E-3)
• HOURS OF OPERATION
• 24 hours per day, 7 days a week
• Nurse to patient ratio: Days: 1:3
• Nights: 1:3
SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Unit is an acute 15 bed unit. The patient population includes Saudi and Non-Saudi Nationals, 14 years of age and up. Patients are admitted with various hematological disorders, including:
• Acute and Chronic Leukemia
• Aplastic Anemia
• Multiple Myeloma
• Sickle Cell Anemia
• Burkitt's Lymphoma
• Thalassemia
• Myelodysplastic Syndrome
• ITP; TTP
• Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation
• Bone Marrow Donors
• Post BMT supportive treatments
The Unit provides supervision from senior staff nurses to nursing students, including interns and interim staff nurses.
FREQUENT PROCEDURES/SERVICES/FUNCTIONS:
• Medication delivery including chemotherapy administration and management
• Blood product administration
• Central/peripheral IV line management
• Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration
• Lumbar puncture
• Patient assessment and evaluation (frequent hemodynamic monitoring)
• Management of Myelosuppression
• Neutropenic isolation (and other as required)
• Patient/family education
• Oxygen therapy and pulse oximetry
• Nutritional support (TPN, weights)
• Wound and skin care
• BMT work-up
• Pain control
• Post Radiation Therapy Care
• Psychosocial support

Requirements
• Registered Nurse with current nursing license from country of origin
• Two years recent acute BMT nursing experience
