Research Scientist - Dielectric

Schlumberger

Saudi Arabia

Ref: NP717-92

Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research Center (SDCR) focuses on research related to Geology, Rock Physics and Fluid Dynamics to better understand the reservoir pore matrix, fluid saturation and its potential to flow through the reservoir rock into the wellbore and the overall oil recovery.

As part of our program, our team uses their knowledge across a range of multi-physical measurements on reservoir cores to determine reservoir potential. Using a variety of data acquisition services, logging systems, and samples, they determine the reservoir architecture/matrix, hydrocarbon in place among many other petro physical parameters.

As an Dielectric Research Scientist, you'll have a wide range of career opportunities and work on projects at different scales. Dielectric measures geological core samples to determine critical pore and fluid properties. You will work on fluid and reservoir rock core measurements to provide core-to-log calibration, determine pore structure, fluid saturation, wettability, and optimize logging parameters, integration with down hole logs data, inversion and other innovative measurements.

You'll work closely with customers and internal segments on projects including single-well interpretation, exploratory play evaluation, integrated reservoir studies, and field development planning. It is critical in your position to contribute in developing new tools and systems to improve reservoir understanding.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Performing basic and advance dielectric core measurements for petro physical rock and fluid characteristics.
• The ability to write and modify proper inversion codes for data analysis and interpretation.
• Maintain existing dielectric instrument functionality, capable to modify the system to adapt different set of measurements including HPHT conditions and therefore able to upgrade the system.
• Explains the workflow required to deliver customer data that meets common deliverable standards.
• Understanding the data generated by experiments, and producing actionable, trustworthy conclusions from them. Clarifies purpose and importance; stresses major points; follows a logical sequence.
• Ability for data processing, and build visualization tools and share these tools and your knowledge across the team.
• Develop new applications and writing technical research proposals, papers and patents.
• Identifies additional business opportunities.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:
• Candidates must have received a PhD in physics, electrical engineering, petrophysics or any related area majoring in electromagnetics.
• Excellent analytic skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; and a strong commitment to SLB core values of quality and objectivity
• Adaptability, understands changes in own and others' work and situations, treats changes and new situations as opportunities for learning or growth; focuses on the beneficial aspects of change
• Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level
• Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position, minimum two years' Nuclear Magnetic Resonance experience preferred
• Fluent in English and Arabic preferred
