Senior BI Engineer

Job description / Role

Power BI Administration:

Manage and administer the Power BI service, including workspaces, datasets, reports, and dashboards.
Monitor and optimize Power BI performance, including data refresh schedules and query performance.
Implement and enforce security policies, including row-level security (RLS) and role-based access control (RBAC).
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Power BI reports, data sources, and gateways.
Collaborate with business users to design and deploy Power BI solutions that meet organizational needs.
Stay updated with the latest Power BI features and updates, and implement best practices.

SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) Administration:

Design, develop, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using SSIS.
Monitor and optimize SSIS package performance and troubleshoot failures.
Manage SSIS catalog, deployments, and scheduling of packages.
Ensure data integrity and accuracy by implementing data validation and error handling mechanisms.
Collaborate with database administrators and developers to integrate SSIS with other systems.

SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) Administration:

Administer and maintain SSAS instances, including multidimensional and tabular models.
Optimize SSAS cube performance, including partitioning, aggregations, and processing schedules.
Implement and manage security roles and permissions within SSAS.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SSAS processing, queries, and connectivity.
Work with data architects and analysts to design and deploy SSAS solutions.

General Responsibilities:

Monitor system health, performance, and availability of BI tools and services.
Perform regular backups, updates, and patches for BI tools and related systems.
Document processes, configurations, and best practices for BI administration.
Provide technical support and training to end-users and stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between BI tools and business objectives.
Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in BI and data analytics.
Building Analysis Services reporting models.
Migrating self-service reports from Oracle BI and Tableau to Power BI self-service.
Migrate reports and dashboards from Oracle BI to Power BI.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.

Experience:

5+ years of experience in administering and managing Power BI, SSIS, and SSAS.
Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and BI concepts.
Experience with SQL Server, including T-SQL scripting and database administration.
Familiarity with data visualization best practices and tools.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) is a plus.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Power BI administration, including Power BI Service and Power BI Report Server.
Expertise in SSIS package development, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Strong knowledge of SSAS, including cube design, processing, and optimization.
Experience with data modeling, DAX, and MDX.
Knowledge of data gateways, dataflows, and Power Query.
Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation tasks.

Work Environment:

This role may require occasional after-hours support for system maintenance or troubleshooting.
