Overview

We are seeking a Sociologist to join Ithra Digital Wellbeing program of King Abdulaziz Center of World Culture (Ithra).

The Digital Wellbeing program is a global flagship initiative by Ithra with very high ambitions to tackle the issues from unbalanced and excessive digital usage, and to promote a balanced and moderate healthy relationship with digital solutions

The Sociologist primary role is to conduct social experiments and studies on the behavior of individuals to understand their relationship with digital solution and social media platforms. Furthermore, the sociologist will observe the interaction between individuals over social media, the impact of culture in unbalanced digital usage, and the impact of these platforms on societies as a whole.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate you will hold a PhD degree in Sociology, cultural psychology, or other relevant fields from a recognized and approved program.

You will have a minimum of Eight years of experience in studying behaviors and societies, conducting social experiments, and publishing research papers and reports.

You will be also demonstrating high experience in conducting social experiments and studying the impact of social influence on individuals and groups.

Adhere to the basic steps in the scientific method when conducting research, from formulating a hypothesis to sharing findings, and finally publishing research papers, is also necessary.

Key Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following:

Develop research proposals that will contribute in revealing the impact of excessive digital usage on societies, and how cultures impact our usage positively or negatively.

Design digital wellbeing research projects to test theories, and how excessive digital platforms and social media usage, and online content affect individuals' behaviors.

Explore the economic impact of individuals and groups digital interactions, and Collect and analyze data through global surveys, observations, interviews, social media posts, local and international reports, and other resources.

Build hypothesis from the collected data and draw conclusions out of them.

Prepare and publish scientific research papers, reports, articles, and presentations on their research findings.

Research and evaluate potential research and knowledge partners for the Digital Wellbeing projects.

Collaborate with other researchers, social scientist, psychologists, policy makers, governmental and NGOs, to conduct research and propose policies that will limit the negative impact of excessive digital usage and social media addiction.

Contribute in conducting literature reviews to further understand the issues of excessive digital usage and social media addiction.
