Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Counsellors assist students with their academic and personal development in conjunction with management, teaching staff and families. Counsellors achieve this goal through individual and group counselling, workshops, awareness activities and case partnerships with teaching staff and management. In addition, counsellors assist students with special needs and medical conditions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Individual & Group Counselling:
- Conducts individual and group counselling sessions, e.g. study problems, adjustment, resolving conflicts and communication.
- Conducts individual counselling sessions for students and maintains appropriate records.
- Assists in identifying counselling materials.
- Organises awareness sessions for students and identifies appropriate external speakers.

College and Community Liaison:
- Liaises with students families and community agencies as approporiate
- Liaises with management, teaching staff and assists them in working effectively with studnets and in identifying students who may require counselling.

Support Student Success:
- Designs and conducts Student Development Workshops on relevant student centred topics (i.e. time management, conflict resolution, leadership, team building, goal setting).
- Assists students with special needs and medical conditions and advocates with managers and faculty as needed.
- Participates in college programmes related to student success (i.e. new student orientation, peer tutuoring programmes, health and wellness activities).

Additional duties:
- Responds and assists college nurse in dealing with medical emergencies as needed.
- Works as a member of the Student Services and Support Team.
- Participates in relevant meetings as appropriate.
- Other duties as required.

Requirements

- Must be able to communicate effectively with managers, colleagues, teaching staff, students, guardians of students and community contacts.
- 3 years’ experience in personal/academic counselling, preferably in a college or university setting
- Demonstrated ability to design and delivery workshops
- Computer literate

Language:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
