PURPOSE: Support the addressing of clients' Engineering design clarifications and queries during the construction supervision stage

Job Summary

The Director - Engineering oversees all Engineering design activities within the organisation, such as the design engineering systems related to HVAC, firefighting and plumbing for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The jobholder is responsible to manage delivery, enforce policies and procedures, ensure quality, and manage cost, capacity and utilisation within the Engineering Section. The jobholder is also responsible to attract, develop and standardise Engineering capabilities within the design centre and to ensure coordination and knowledge sharing with other Engineering Sections within the network. He shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in engineering design and represent the firm as a specialist in the professional engineering communities and international forums.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Track and report on Engineering Section utilisation levels as per targets set by the Senior Director - Engineering, and manage resources accordingly.
- Provide input for the development of Engineering Department business plan
- Develop the Engineering Section budget and raise to the Senior Director - Engineering for review.
- Ensure provision of high quality Engineering design services to clients and internal counterparts in other Design Departments, as required by their projects' scope.
- Represent the organisation on Engineering design topics and contribute to enhancing the brand name and reach of the firm in the market.

Duties

- Lead and manage the Engineering Section towards achieving the targets included in the Engineering Department business plan
- Lead Engineering design activities in the design centre, including designs related to HVAC, firefighting and plumbing for residential, commercial and industrial applications
- Define Engineering Section scope, capacity and capability required to deliver projects and outsourcing needs during the proposal development stage
- Review Engineering design man-hours estimates during the proposal development stage
- Share expert knowledge and identify and assess project risks during the proposal development stage
- Select and engage external speciality suppliers for the Engineering Section, in coordination with the Senior Director - Engineering.
- Review design deliverable prepared by the Engineering.
- Support Engineering project teams in resolving escalated technical issues, as needed.
- Ensure / enforce close coordination and knowledge sharing between the Engineering Section and Engineering Sections in other design centre within the network through periodic meetings.
- Support the assessment of Engineering design changes and resulting claims during the construction supervision stage.

Requirements

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Master's Degree in Engineering or in Business Administration is preferred
- PMP Certification is an advantage Chartered Professional Engineering certification or equivalent is preferred.

Overall Experience

- 18+ years of experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry in a top tier regional / multinational engineering consultancy firm, specifically in Engineering design
- Strong experience and track record in managing large and complex projects focused on the Engineering scope of work
- Strong experience in the design of Engineering systems, such as systems related to HVAC, plumbing and firefighting in residential, commercial and industrial applications
- Experience in municipal / government projects
- Exposure to global best practices and trends in the Architecture, Engineering and Planning Industry, in particular related to Engineering design
- Significant industry experience within the Middle East
