Employment: Full Time

The Sonar 2093 Systems Engineerwill support and upgrades for the sonar systems for the Royal Saudi Naval Force Mine Hunters. There is now an opportunity for additional suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated systems engineers to join the team. The work will include maintenance, testing and trials validation (in harbour and at sea), on the Sonar System and support of any related tasks dictated by the In-Country Programme Manager, Training in the United Kingdom will be required at times during the contract, There may be occasions where the applicant will need to be onboard the ship providing support during exercises away from Saudi Arabia, This is a new team and therefore the individual will need to be motivated, flexible and supportive of other team members. The applicant must be able to work as an individual and as a participating team member.

Key Responsibilities:
• Investigation and rectification of defects on the Sonar System as reported by the RSNF and the Thales team.
• Installation and participation of customer acceptance for minor Sonar System updates.
• Conduct harbour and sea trials as required for the Sonar System.
• Provide relevant briefs on the condition of the Sonar System on each ship to the In-Country Programme Manager.
• Maintain a clean and tidy work area.
• Work under the direction of the supervising Thales Engineers.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar subject. or related field required. It is essential that the candidate has experience and training in electronics rather than mechanical and electrical engineering.
• Good spoken and written English.
• Ability to read and understand the relevant technical documentation in English.
• Ability to complete any tasks with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to be an essential and useful member of a small team.
• The applicant will need to be physically fit for the role. Lifting maintenance equipment on and off the ship is physically demanding.
• Ability to supervise junior team members and technicians.

Essential Experience
• Practical systems engineering.
• Fault finding on complex electronic systems.
• Ability to speak, read and write English.

Desirable Experience (not essential)
• Sonar systems or other electronics systems.
• Working within a military environment.

Key Performance Indicators
• All Sonar repairs are completed to a satisfactory standard and within the timescales permitted by the contract.
• There may be occasions where late or weekend working is required.
