Head of Technical Marketing (Pigments) - South Africa or Turkey

Developing pigments for paints, inks and masterbatches, our client creates highly concentrated additives for the decorative & industrial coatings industry, Masterbatch producers within the plastics industry and inks for use within the printing industry.

As part of their growth strategy, our client is looking for both a Head of Technical Marketing AND a Technical Marketing Manager. One will be based out of Johannesberg, South Africa and the other will be based outside of Istanbul, Turkey. We don’t mind which is which! As the Head of Technical Marketing you will hold a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry OR a National Diploma in Colourant Technology and have 5-10 years experience at a high level within a Research & Development Laboratory, either within a colourant house or end applications, together with management & leadership experience of Laboratory Marketing teams… which may include remote management or cross-country leadership. You will join the 4-strong Regional Sales Team in representing the Technical Marketing functions across the region.

One of the first projects we have for you, is to set-up our Pigment Laboratory outside of Istanbul, Turkey. We already boast significant Lab capability for other product development in Turkey, however this new Lab with be solely dedicated to Pigments…. similar to our existing Laboratory in South Africa.

You will work closely with the Technical Marketing Manager and Laboratory personnel and are likely to spend a significant percentage of your time co-ordinating Lab activities including formulating colours into end products, and working with web chemistry & colourant software including Largo, DataColour and Colorbri in order to predict future applications.

Requirements

The successful applicant for this role will demonstrate a broader sense of entrepreneurship, be an active listener which will trigger a curious mind, be team and customer-centric, and have a love of working with clients to understand concepts, and develop winning products. Your engaging & confident communication will help you to create lasting connections with the team of 2-3 who will report directly in to you, across the region. Of course there will be timeline challenges as a result, however this will not be a challenge to your flexibility.

A LOT of travel is involved in this role, either across the sub-Sahara (if SA based), or MENA (if Turkey based). Therefore you need the ability to travel unimpeded and the ability to stay organised when working under travel pressures.

In addition to being able to effectively communicate in both written and verbal English, if you are based in South Africa, French would be an advantage. If you are to be based in Turkey, Turkish & Arabic would be an advantage.
