Job description / Role
Responsibilities:
• Manages and supervises the preparation of in-house designs and specifications for construction and maintenance of roadway, bridge, subdivision, storm water, drainage, and utility projects
• Manages, coordinates, and reviews engineering consultant's design, plans, and specifications for construction projects
• Supervises and assists in the preparation and obtaining of all required regulatory agency permits
• Manages and supervises the construction and inspection of roadway, bridge, subdivision, storm water, drainage, utility and pavement assessment projects
• Prepares project status reports and schedules as required
• Prepares quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and technical reports
• Makes engineering investigations and prepares reports on findings
• Prepares drawings for transportation projects
• Provides technical assistance to in-house construction and maintenance forces and other departments
• Performs related work as required

Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or related field or four or more years of experience in engineering in lieu of degree
• Three years of experience directly related to the field of engineering to which the position is assigned
• A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted at the County's discretion for the minimum educational requirements if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position as posted
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the principles of civil engineering
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques of road, bridge, subdivision, stormwater, drainage and utility construction
• Ability to prepare, read, and interpret moderately complex engineering plans
• Ability to prepare and submit clear and precise engineering and related reports orally and written
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Skill in the use of surveying or drafting instruments
• Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of engineers, contractors, technicians and clerical personnel
• Ability to work with the public. Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, specifications, and indexes
• Public speaking experience and the ability to deal with the public, contractors, FDOT, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), County employees and elected officials
• Knowledge of SWFWMD rules preferred
Physical Skills:
• Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
• Must possess a valid driver's license
