Job description / Role
We are looking to create the best text search platform in the world, within this industry.
Right now we, and our competitors provide fairly basic functionality leveraging Lucene for geographic lookups. We have a plan to extend this significantly and become the world’s best for this kind of work.
We do have a roadmap, end goal and a very excited product manager. What we don’t have is a technical lead/visionary.
We have some basic knowledge around Lucene, Solr, ElasticSearch: we’re perfectly capable of leveraging the functionality.
Requirements
What we are looking for however is somebody that has the skills and passion to take it to the next level.
We are looking for someone who has the proficiency to write custom analyzers, scorers, filters etc. When sat with someone from China, Japan, can use that person's knowledge and plug it in to the engine to get the desired behavior.
We are looking for the difference between someone that can drive the car vs. the guy that can tune it and rip the engine out and replace it with something far better.
Our investment in text search, accuracy and what we can do with it is not going to go away – this is something we want to invest years into.
We also see this as a real opportunity to do something nobody else is doing and will have huge conversion gains.
This would be a really significant part of our website and we need someone of your caliber to make it happen.
