Course Overview

Michael Hammer, in 1991 in his article \"Reengineering Work: Don\'t Automate, Obliterate\" published in Harvard Business Review, wrote that “Managers are to obliterate forms of work that do not add value, instead of using technology for automating it.” This was also described in another renowned book titled “Reengineering the corporation: A manifesto for business revolution”, which was co-authored with James A Champy. In this book, they noted that “in the business environment nothing is constant or predictable—not market growth, customer demand, product life spans, technological change, nor the nature of competition.” As a result, the dynamics of the business world has changed dramatically for customers and suppliers.

The concept of business process-reengineering is aligned with the strategy of business management which helps organizations to reengineer their work in order to bring about quantum improvement in customer service, reduce operational costs and become highest challengers. By the end of the last century, more than 60% of the top world companies either initiated reengineering efforts, or made plans to do so.
