As a result, global manager of today and tomorrow must genuinely understand how to communicate in a cross-cultural context. Awareness and intercultural skills in communication are keys to the career success of aspiring managers and professionals. This course combines theory, cases studies and exercises to provide students with a foundation for understanding, managing and interacting effectively in multicultural situations. Values, beliefs, expectations, customs and attitudes of various cultural groups are studied and techniques and strategies are discussed to facilitate communication in the global environment. Practical activities encourage you to apply theories and ideas to practise and to relate them on your own experience.

Course content

DURATION: 10 hours

SCHEDULE:

  • 2 hours per day for 5 days or 2 hours per week for 5 weeks.

CONTENT: Increasing your knowledge and analytical skills regarding communication between people from different racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in both international and domestic settings, exploring cultural self-awareness, other culture awareness and the dynamics that arise in the interactions between the two, identifying how communication processes differ among cultures, understanding the challenges that arise from differences in intercultural interactions, developing the skills necessary to read, evaluating and using intercultural theories and making practical applications of intercultural communication theories.

At the end of the course, you should be able to understand how and why communication practices and process can differ around the world and develop intercultural skills, critically analyse manifestations of cultural difference in intercultural interactions, including instances of both intercultural conflict and intercultural cooperation.
