Employment: Full Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Adapted Physical Education (Individual, Group and Swim Instruction)

- Implement and, as needed, develop curricula in the areas of flexibility, balance, strength, cardiovascular conditioning and team sports.
- Implement curricula in the areas of swimming skills based upon the 6 levels of American Red Cross and WSI swimming instruction.
- Conduct all 1:1 swim assessments and 4-6 week probes.
- Provide direct service during instructional times for specified caseload.
- Develop IEP goals/objectives for assigned students.
- Develop and implement therapeutic recreation in the community and research new potential activities/facilities.
- Work collaboratively with the occupational therapist and others to design most suitable gym and aquatics routines.
- Train team teachers to implement curricula and goals as well as to collect and summarize data
- Position involves 25-30 hours teaching and 10-15 hours for program planning.

* Life Guarding and Pool Facility Management

- Perform life guarding duties as assigned and scheduled.
- Monitor laundry room. Assure students’ bathing suits are laundered and ready for lessons.
- Complete pool opening and closing procedures as appropriate.
- Monitor all pool chemicals levels, according to schedule, and perform any necessary maintenance.
- Continually assess safety and cleanliness of pool and report any anomalies to Program Director.
- Brush and vacuum pool, as assigned.

* Student Activities

- Assist planning and implementing annual student activities (e.g. field trips).

* Physical Requirements of Work with Children

- Administer protective holds, movements and carries.
- Block student movements against the student’s weight (40-150 pounds).
- Physical interventions in response to aggressive and self-injurious behavior.
- Able to move quickly and confidently to intervene when situations requiring protective holds and/or movements are deemed necessary.
- Pursue a running student when necessary.
- Successfully complete CALM training (non-violent self-defense) The training has a strong physical component.
- Including but not limited to: pivoting, knee squats, shuffling front and backwards, carrying people, taking down a person to the floor and stabilizing people in a prone position.

Requirements

- B.A. or B.S. and certification in Adapted Physical Education, Physical Education, Therapeutic Recreation or a related health field with a concentration in Special Education, Psychology, and/or Motor Development Therapy is preferred.
- Experience with individuals with PDD, autism, behavior disorders, related disabilities and/or experience using Applied Behavior Analysis, preferred.
- Some coaching experience, preferred
- Current life guard certification (or eligibility to pursue)
- Water Safety Instruction Certification (or eligibility to pursue)
- Behave respectfully and sensitively to cultural and religious norms and values at all times

In January 2010, NECC-AD joined the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). NECC-AD provides intensive educational services utilizing the proven principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to UAE National children with autism and related disorders ages 3-9. NECC-AD is designed to replicate the comprehensive range of educational services and graduate education available in our U.S. center. Our new, world class facility is located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, just minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi.
