Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsibilities:
• Performs daily activities related to animal care including feeding, handling and maintenance/improvements to the wildlife center habitats
• Performs repairs and maintenance to all site structures and grounds
• Supports the best practices determined for the welfare of animals on site including working with legal/permitting agencies related to animal care such as the USDA, PA Fish and Boat Commission and the PA Game Commission
• Assists in all aspects of landscape maintenance including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal and trash pick-up and disposal
• Provides on-site interpretation & educational tours to daily visitors and during special events
• Notifies Animal Worker II on status of supplies required for daily operation and projects
• Operates/maintains equipment including construction equipment needed for habitat refurbishment
• Supervises, coordinates and monitors part time employees, volunteers and community service personnel involved on site
• Performs safe operation of equipment and animal care. Ensures preventive maintenance repairs are completed
• Performs necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs
• Performs snow removal duties
• Assists in all construction activities
• Must follow all directed County safety procedures
• Routinely drives County vehicles sand assists in the preventive and routine maintenance of such vehicles
• Assists in all aspects of building maintenance including cleaning restrooms, offices and rental facilities
• Required to take training as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualification Requirements:
• Experience in Zoology, Wildlife Management, Animal Husbandry or related fields preferred
• Must be at 18 years of age
• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; two (2) years college or technical school preferred
• Experience in record keeping
• Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public
• Must have ability to work in public areas in a safe manner
• Must be able to read/write/speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License, a satisfactory driving record and the ability to maintain one throughout employment
• Must successfully pass PA State Police Criminal Record Check
