Role overview

The Sheikh Zayed Private Academy for Boys (SZPAB) is looking to appoint an Arabic Learning Assistant for our Early Childhood and Elementary Team. The LA will support Arabic language acquisition and literacy development for young learners through differentiated instruction in reading, writing, and speaking. They will work closely with Arabic teachers to reinforce classroom learning. Prior experience in early years or elementary Arabic language instruction is recommended.

Responsibilities:

• Build positive, respectful, and effective relationships.
• Inspire students with a love of learning and promote growth mindset and learner agency.
• Communicate high expectations for all students, encouraging them to be motivated and deeply engaged in their learning.
• Support students in retaining ownership over their learning and teach them specific problem-solving skills.
• Allow opportunities for students to work independently, providing support and guidance when required, celebrating learning from mistakes.
• Help students practice skills, provide feedback on their progress, and help them reflect on their learning.
• Encourage students to deepen their understanding by creating a culture of higher order thinking, problem solving and inquiry.
• Celebrate students' progress and successes.
• Liaise with the inclusion team on student progress and attainment where required.
• Build rapport, promote teamwork, maintain effective working relationships.
• Be willing to share best practice and act as a role model to others.
• Work with a range of students in varying contexts consistent with teacher's lesson plans, goals and intentions to ensure students make progress.
• Communicate with the teacher about students' well-being, progress, attainment and behavior.
• Support the teacher in creating a safe, nurturing learning environment.
• Support the teacher in displaying material and student work to enhance student learning and celebrate success.
• Support the teacher with the preparation of lesson resources and maintaining the learning environment.
• Fully understand the complementary role and responsibilities of the teacher and learning assistant.
• Prepare for the lessons by ensuring subject knowledge is accurate and there is a clear understanding of the learning objective.
• Articulate clearly to the students the knowledge and skills for them to be successful in their learning.
• Be highly skilled and confident in the use of technology to support student learning.

Experience and educational requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (all subject areas considered)
• Relevant experience working in an Early Childhood/Elementary School setting
• Native Arabic speaker - UAE National candidates will be prioritized
• Strong Arabic and English language proficiency
