Job description / Role

The UAE University Department of Languages and Literature invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the area of English or American Literature in the Fall semester 2018. The rank will depend on qualifications and experience. Candidates are expected to have an earned PhD in the discipline obtained from a reputable university preferably from North America. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellent skills in research and in teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Expertise in the fields of rhetoric, writing, critical theory and/or any area of British and American literature will be an asset. The university's expectations for faculty include effective teaching, productive scholarship, and appropriate forms of service. The initial appointment will be for a four-year period, with the first two years probationary. Faculty members are expected to teach at all levels in the Department, to share in general education teaching, and participate, as appropriate, in Masters and PhD programs.

Requirements

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in the field. English is the language of instruction and communication. The standard teaching load is 9-12 hours per semester, modified in varying degrees by course remissions arising from funded research and consultative activities or administrative roles. All faculty members are expected to have an ongoing research agenda and to be engaged in the publication of work that has been subject to external peer review and appears in internationally recognized and cited journals or books.
