Job description / Role
Deliver high quality legal services and manage the day-to-day effectiveness and performance of the legislative practice of the Legal Department
Client Details
Financial and Government service company providing regulatory and ancillary services with a focus on asset management, banking and credit services, securities, collective investment funds, custody and trust services, commodities futures trading, Islamic finance, insurance, an international equities exchange, and an international commodities derivatives exchange.
Description
* Draft legislation (laws, rules, waivers/modification) and guidance.
* Provide timely and accurate legal advice and support to the Policy and Strategy Department and other departments.
* Prepare or contribute to high standard papers and materials to the Board and its committees and participate in meetings of the legislative committee.
* Oversee and enhance the quality and consistency of legislation and legal advice, including settling drafting and advice of junior lawyers.
* Provide legal advice and support to administrative decision-makers within the body.
* Identify and undertake improvement opportunities relating to the legislative practice, utilising best practices and technology.
* Maintain a constructive, responsive, client-focused and appropriately independent working relationship with other departments of the body.
* Brief external legal representatives and Counsel where appropriate.

Requirements
Candidates who apply must meet all of the following criteria:
* Barrister/Solicitor with right to practice in law, preferably from a common law jurisdiction
* 10 years PQE in a similar role in a financial services regulator or government legal service
* Knowledge of Public Law, and experience drafting legislation
