Job description / Role
The NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Athletic Coach & Sports Information Administrator has dual responsibilities for coaching (preferably basketball, tennis or volleyball), while assisting with the management of NYUAD's sports information.
The primary duties and responsibilities of a Coach are as follows:
Provides supervision and coaching of collegiate team(s).
Directs training and practice programs for the team(s).
Teaches skills and strategies to student-athletes in practice, for use in competition.
Directs and controls the maintenance of appropriate team conduct during competition, travel, practice events and at any other times when the team is representing the University.
Maintains and controls equipment assigned for team(s) use.
Scouts opponents when appropriate.
Maintains appropriate records of individual and team statistics and records as required.
Works with the Supervisor of Athletics to develop, monitor and maintain budget for program.
Coordinates with athletic staff to arrange for team travel arrangements within given parameters for budget and timing considerations.
May be responsible for practice and game event set-up and tear down of court, field or practice site equipment and needs.
Attends staff meetings and various other meetings, games, contests or college events as assigned.
Performs other related duties as required.
The primary duties and responsibilities of Sports Information Administrator are as follows:
Assist in all aspects of media and sports information relating NYU Abu Dhabi athletics.
Assist in the maintenance of NYU Abu Dhabi Athletics Web Site.
Assist in the production of media guides, publications, and game-day materials for all sports.
Assist in the maintenance the Athletic Department’s social media presence, including blog, Facebook and Twitter.
Responsible for photography at NYU Abu Dhabi sport events.
Assist in the preparation of pre- and post-game statistical information and notes, as well as any other data the media requests for sports events at the University.
Maintain all statistical information, historical data, photographic and video files for the University’s sports programs.
Coordinate special athletic events such as award banquets and other events assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Work proactively with media to encourage coverage of University athletic events and news.
Writes/edits features for various University publications.
Travels with assigned sports teams to away events.
Supervises student workers, grad assistants, interns.
Performs others duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years experience in related sport coaching and in a sports information environment is required.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; foster a strong and cooperative work environment; lead and guide student-athletes in area of specialty, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of news, reporting, and editing principles, practices, and techniques; printing and graphics; and web site management.
Skill in verbal and written communications, interpersonal relations, photography and file maintenance.
Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Adobe, Photoshop and Wordpress.
High level of motivation and ability to work a flexible schedule.
