Bid and Business Development Director - Transportation

The Job Opportunity

This is an opportunity to work with Serco Middle East supporting our growth agenda. The role is responsible for delivering high quality bids on time and within budget and developing a future pipeline of business development opportunities. This individual will develop and manage the bid team, key customer relationships as well as key internal Serco relationships and the governance process. A key element to the role is to ensure that any existing operations are involved in the bid process to demonstrate quality of operations.

Key accountabilities

- Bid Team Leadership
- To build, lead and motivate high performing bid teams, in accordance with Serco's governing principles, with an expectation to win.
- Bid Leadership
- To lead strategic development of key Transportation Bids to ensure a persuasive, commercially competitive offering that fully reflects customer requirements.
- Business Development
- To develop a pipeline of future Transportation opportunities which align to Serco's growth strategy.
- Customer Relationship
- To work with key stakeholders to develop and manage a network of senior relationships with the customer, partners and stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are anticipated, understood and met.
- Internal Stakeholder Management
- To work closely with the Operational business, ensuring the bids align with Serco's operational strategy and takes into account current delivery successes and issues.
- Internal Governance
- To oversee compliance with Serco's governance process, including management of Project Boards.

Requirements

What we are looking for in our candidates

- Delivering winning high-quality bids on time and within budget
- Working within successful organisation(s) in a similar role
- Being part of a senior management team, building and leading successful teams (min GBP 20m per annum contracts)
- Significant programme/project management experience
- Considerable involvement in bidding/transitioning/managing contracts
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in related field on national / international major initiatives and developments.

- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills and highly developed written skills
- A self-starter who is able to demonstrate they can work without supervision
- Experience of managing teams
- Ability to think strategically and balance long- and short-term operational priorities
- Ability to solve problems and complex issues in a timely manner
- Understand and interpret customer needs to deliver competitive and innovative tenders
- Demonstrates strong commercial acumen and ability to gather information to support commercial decisions
