Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Buying Manager is the individual who would select the items that need to be stocked in the store, based on his or her predictions about what will be popular with shoppers. He/ She works closely with the principles to predict future trends, analyze consumer patterns of buying and control the flow of stock. The Buying Manager works alongside with other departments managing storage, stock control, budgeting and sales analysis, pricing to achieve overall profitability of the Company.

Job Accountabilities:
• Responsible for planning and selecting a range of products to be sold in the shops considering customer demand, market trends, store policy and financial budgets. Keeping the Brand Managers up-to-date on the same.
• To monitor margins regularly and ensure that they are in line with the business plans.
• Works closely with the Brand Managers to monitor product performance and carryout progressive and seasonal markdowns in keeping with the markdown budgets
• Decides the promotion plans keeping in mind current market demands
• Ensure optimal sell through at full price and reduce terminal stocks.
• Maximise sales potential on best sellers and continuity.
• Investigate poor selling lines [e.g quality, pricing, fit, styling etc} and improve sales on worst sellers.
• Ensure that brands/departments are delivering intake margins as per plans
• Conduct ‘Comp. Shops’ on a regular basis to learn more about the competition.
• Carry out progressive markdowns on poor performing lines and monitor sell through at various levels of markdowns.
• Prepare a seasonal price file using intake margin plans and ensuring competitive pricing.
• Maximise sales potential on best sellers and continuity.
• Highlight volume buys, fashion statements and continuity lines.
• Provide meaningful reports to the management on stock holding, margins, weeks cover etc

Requirements

Qualifications:
• Must be a university graduate. Accounting background would be an added advantage.

Experience:
• 8-9 years of relevant work experience with Purchasing/Buying background; minimum 3-4 years at the managerial level --

Knowledge/Skills:
• Be able to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure.
• Have a business-like approach and use tact and diplomacy when negotiating.
• Be able to absorb and assess information quickly.
• Have the numerical skills to interpret statistics and make commercial decisions.
• Be a good negotiator and enjoy dealing with people, whether by phone or in person.
• Have good creative ability and an eye for detail.
• Have excellent business, planning and organizational skills.
• Be an excellent communicator, with plenty of social confidence.
