Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Responsible for delivering direct patient care, support of nursing staff and assessment, implementation and evaluation of care required on the assigned ward(s). Acts as a support for less experience staff, or rotating student nurses. Assesses the ward and patient care needs and available resources for current and oncoming shifts. Reviews patient history, mediation records and communicates information for continuity of care (shift to shift). Coordinates admission/transfers/discharges and supports patients in access to follow up care or other healthcare services.

Responsibilities

- Assists in the creation of a pleasant work atmosphere for staff, patients and family and provision of a care in a safe clean environment.
- Provides direct patient care as an effective team member and promotes the highest standards of clinical nursing care established on evidence based practice.
- Monitors and guides staff as appropriate in the provision of care and providing support or supervision as required.
- Assists in identifying and reporting accidents or incidents to the ward manager for further review and action by the Quality division.
- In collaboration with the manager, assigns and coordinates patient care for safe staffing, material resources and related duties
- Effective patient care provision safeguarding the health and safety of co-workers, fire prevention management and infection control procedures.
- Provide effective workload for self and co-workers dependent on patient condition and scope of care needs.
- Ensure patient and staff confidentiality.
- Maintain records for patient care in accordance to established policy, procedure and protocols.
- Supports and promotes nursing practice in alignment with current research supporting the ward management.
- Awareness of quality initiatives and support in collection of data and care improvement for positive accreditation standards and outcomes.
- Liaison to the patient and family related to provision of care and satisfaction with care delivery on the ward(s).

Requirements

Qualifications / Skills Expectations for Ideal Candidates

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT 3 years study duration from accredited program;
- AND Valid/Current national license AND BLS
- Preferred: ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
- NLT 1 year in a Charge Nurse (CN) position on a particular unit. This role may be a permanent, relief or rotational position as per the unit/ward shift for CN. Other terminology used for CN is; team leader, shift in charge, unit supervisor or senior nurse, depending on country and hospital settings.
- Demonstrates sound clinical assessment and leadership skills.
- Good English spoken & written, Arabic language advantageous/desirable, but not essential.
