Job description / Role
Based in Abu Dhabi and part of a large retail and trading group, we are seeking a chief accountant for our client due to company growth. The organisation has recently been through a senior management structural change and is developing its business to ensure future growth and expansion across all brands including fashion, accessories, luxury and homewares. Therefore the successful candidate will offer several years’ experience at accountant level, with a preference within a large retail organisation of 150 stores plus.
Handling the full range of accounting including the complete AP cycle, this role will require the chief accountant to be responsible for the daily review of all finance operations. You will also be responsible for a total team of 10, including 3 senior accountants, 5 general accountants and 2 office assistants. You will in turn report to the Accounts Manager. Amongst the usual duties of month and year end closing you will also perform project cost forecasts and projections and track, monitor and control specific budgets and provide monthly consolidated financial statements, payments and cash flow management reporting and intercompany cost allocations. Part of the role also ensures that capital expenditure requests are approved and shown on the ERP system, alongside review and approval of payment vouchers. As this is considered a senior role within the organisation you will also establish and maintain internal control and provide insight into new ways of working to ensure maximum efficiency and highly accurate information and reports at all times. It is also expected that you will prepare for and liaise with internal and external auditors and ensure vendor, customer and bank reconciliations are reviewed regularly, with any variants being fully investigated. You will also have management of the banking facilities, ensuring bank guarantees, and relationships and facilities with suppliers are review and monitored on a timely basis. As a chief accountant you will be expected to continually monitor finances, management reports, staff workload and internal processes to ensure the finance team functions at an optimum level.
Those selected for interview will have 4-5 years’ experience in a chief or senior accountant role and possess relevant financial qualifications. Due to the involvement with both internal and external audits, candidates with supervisory level exposure to the top global audit and finance organisations are considered a distinct advantage. Those with COGNOS and Hyperion ERP knowledge is also an advantage, alongside possession of excellent English language skills and experience of working in a fast paced and fully diverse team.
