Charterhouse has partnered with a group of companies based in Abu Dhabi that feature in the construction sector, offering contract and building services. A newly created department, our client requires an experienced Commercial Director who will play an influential role in its senior management team and guide the growth of the organisation from inception and beyond.

Reporting to the CEO, the organisation is deeply committed to raising the overall standard and quality of construction delivery in Abu Dhabi.

This Director role will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the department including contractual, legal, project controls, commercial matters and business development, in compliance with the company’s policy. In conjunction, this role will be accountable for all project performance KPI’s, with an emphasis on time and cost, whilst keeping contemporary records to support claims, extension of time and evaluations for variations.

Additionally, the role will lead the tasks performed by the Project Controls Engineers, Planners and Quantity Surveyors, ensuring the highest levels of quality and safety are adhered to in delivering projects. The Commercial Director will manage and monitor the projects EVM including reporting issues, creating and implementing effective solutions, in addition to collecting the relevant information to generate applications for payment and collaborate with the Finance Director regarding, execution of payment, project account and settlements.

This role will be in charge of projects commercial delivery plan and effectively communicate the progress to key stake holders in the form of presentations and reports.

Requirements

The client will look to recruit a Commercial Director, with both pre and post contract management experience, across a minimum of 15 years with a leading building contractor in the UAE or GCC. Delivering projects in Abu Dhabi is essential.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in FIDIC contracts (Red, Yellow) and will be able to implement a new suite of contracts for all activities – consultancy, construction (design & build), as well as negotiate bespoke contracts as and when necessary. Simultaneously, you will have to demonstrate competency in contract procedure, cost modelling, methods of measurement and estimating procedures.

The selected candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Finance from an internationally recognised University. Candidates holding Professional Memberships or Chartered status (MRICS / FRICS) will also be considered as a priority.
