Job description / Role

Position summary:

As a commis chef specializing in Indian tandoor cuisine, you will support the culinary team in preparing authentic North Indian dishes, particularly those cooked in the tandoor oven. You'll ensure high standards of hygiene, taste, and presentation while working under the guidance of senior chefs.

Key responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook tandoor items such as naan, kebabs, tikkas, and other Indian specialties.
• Assist in mise en place and daily food preparation for the Indian section.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tandoor station and kitchen area.
• Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are consistently followed.
• Support senior chefs in menu development and special promotions.
• Monitor inventory and report shortages of ingredients or equipment.
• Uphold Hyatt's brand standards and contribute to a positive guest experience.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in Indian cuisine, especially tandoor cooking, in a hotel or restaurant setting.
• Basic culinary education or vocational training preferred.
• Familiarity with traditional Indian spices, marinades, and cooking techniques.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions accurately.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

About the Company

Hyatt was founded by Jay Pritzker in 1957 when he purchased the Hyatt House motel adjacent to the Los Angeles International Airport. Over the following decade, Jay Pritzker and his brother, Donald Pritzker, working together with other Pritzker family business interests, grew the company into a North American management and hotel ownership company, which became a public company in 1962. In 1968, Hyatt International was formed and subsequently became a separate public company. Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International Corporation were taken private by the Pritzker family business interests in 1979 and 1982, respectively.
