ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

OliOli creates experiences that enable creative, open-ended, curious and non-judgmental play for children and families. OliOli consists of 8 galleries (each containing interactive, hands-on, open-ended, thought-provoking activities.)
Each zone has been designed to create experiences where children can:

- Use their hands to become better problem solvers
- Feel emotionally safe (through no judgment) and are able to take risks in ‘low stakes’ environment to understand the consequences of their choices/actions
- Use technology in a responsible, measured and augmentative manner
- Gain fascination with STEAM curricula and concepts in a holistic, informal manner
- Develop their self-regulation and emotional intelligence Embedded in the community it serves, OliOli will be a hub for issues relevant to all parents and be a rejuvenating destination for parents.

CREATIVE LAB DESCRIPTION

- The Creative Lab is an art focused makerspace for kids and families. We specialize in the development and facilitation of high quality, hands-on making and tinkering activities for kids and families.
- Our programming consists of walk up tinkering activities that are open to any visitor at OliOli, and specialized programs like weekend workshops, holiday camps, and school group workshops.
- From high tech to low tech and the artistic to the engineered, we teach kids and families how tinker, design, make, and create together.

POSITION OVERVIEW

- The Creative Lab Coordinator will oversee all of the ‘on the floor’ activities that take place within the Creative Lab.
- This includes the setup, preparation, maintenance, and facilitation of these activities. The Creative Lab Coordinator, with the assistance of the Director of the Creative Lab, will also have the opportunity to utilize the tools and materials in the Creative Lab to create new tinkering and making experiences for families.
- The Creative Lab Coordinator will also assist the Director of the Creative Lab in the ordering of materials, preparation for workshops, maintaining of the space, teaching classes, and development of new workshops.
- The Creative Lab Coordinator will work towards OliOli’s vision of creating awesome experiences and memories for children, acting as OliOli’s brand ambassador, with the primary objective of engaging with all visitors in an empathetic, thoughtful and joyful manner.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare, setup, facilitate and maintain all on the floor activities in the Creative Lab
- Train other colleagues and Imaginators on how to facilitate these activities in the Creative Lab
- Develop and prototype new ideas for walk up activities, with the assistance of the Director of the Creative Lab
- Assist in all aspects of Creative Lab programming, such as setting up, preparation, and facilitating, including but not limited to, weekend workshops, holiday camps, and school group workshops.
- Assist in daily operations of the Creative Lab
- Help maintain all tools and materials in the space
- Help keep the Creative Lab neat and tidy
- Track and manage the inventory of tools and materials in the Creative Lab
- Help keep track of number of visitors and log data in appropriate spreadsheets
- Ensure safe use of tools and machines by visitors and colleagues
- Support other colleagues as needed for special events and programs
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a safe, friendly, and orderly environment

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Strong interest in prototyping and making
- Ability to learn technical skills quickly
- Fluency with using computers and G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Etc)
- Basic understanding of digital design programs and skills like coding
- Basic knowledge of how to use hand tools and power tools
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and problem solve in a fast paced work environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service experience
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact positively with children, adults, and large groups
- Experience working with young children (ages 2-13) and their families in informal or formal education settings
- Ability to work with diverse staff and visitors
- Excellent grasp of the English language. Arabic is a plus

PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Basic programming and coding knowledge
- Proficiency in digital design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3D Modeling programs
- Working knowledge of fabrication equipment such as a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and 3D printer
- Experience using hand tools and power tools

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Be an ambassador for the OliOli brand; ensure that every visitor’s experience at OliOli meets or exceeds expectations, specifically through inclusive, culturally appropriate, positive and memorable interactions with a friendly and sincere approach
- Contribute to a positive, team-based, and “visitor-first” centric culture
- Collect and communicate visitor’s feedback and suggestions
- Attend to guest queries, and complaints. Amicably resolve matters with any dissatisfied guests
- Manage any situation with overcrowding in relation to the maximum capacity of the area or around a particular exhibit
- The role is expected to be physically demanding and the candidate must have the physical and emotional capacity to deal with the role’s requirements
- This position requires the ability to do one or more of the following throughout the day stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach above and below shoulder level, carry objects of differing sizes and weights. Involves frequent repetitive motion
- The noise level in the work environment is highly variable, from quiet to loud
- The working timings include morning and/or evening shifts. Weekends and holidays work are required
- Uniform/dress code required

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS

- Working weekends is a requirement for this position.
- This means working at least one weekend day a week or at times the full weekend.
- Scheduling will be coordinated with the Director of the Creative Lab
