Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Lead the development of the firm's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in MEA within our key areas: community, pro bono, diversity and inclusion and environment. Reporting to the CSR and Pro Bono Partners and working with the MEA Corporate Responsibility and Inclusion Committee you will raise awareness of the firm's commitment to CSR in the MEA region and help co-ordinate the firm's global strategies and initiatives.

Key responsibilities
• Be the firm's representative for all CSR activities and projects;
• Promote awareness our firm's CSR initiatives internally and externally and maintain the network of charity champions within the firm;
• Establish cooperative relationships with charity representatives and non-profit organisations, client teams and regulatory authorities;
• Chair and coordinate the MENA Community Council meetings and facilitate communication between the Council and charity champions;
• Produce Corporate Responsibility, Diversity and Inclusion responses for pitches;
• Coordinate internal Corporate Responsibility communication plan including newsletters and intranet content;
• Manage the MEA CSR yearly budget;
• Produce Corporate Responsibility award submissions in MEA; and
• Represent the firm at external forums and events on behalf of the firm.
• Manage the firm's pro bono practice in MEA and working with internal practice and sector group to support our lawyers in pro bono matters;
• Seek out and establish new community and pro bono projects and opportunities;
• Responsible for practice management of the pro bono practice including risk management, budgeting, reporting, billing of disbursements, pro bono hours audits, compliance and maintenance of systems and processes;
• Initiate and facilitate client teaming projects, in collaboration with practice groups and business development teams;
• Develop communications and marketing of the firm's CSR and pro bono work strategy;
• Oversee and track office pro bono capacity and matter assignment;
• Coordinate large/complex pro bono projects
• Supervise / act as a resource for lawyers working on pro bono matters
• Build know-how and expertise for new types of pro bono work
• Plan and deliver pro bono training in conjunction with the pro bono Partner for lawyers and teaming clients;
• Engage in external pro bono sector meetings, groups and events;
• Ensure that new pro bono matters are evaluated, screened for conflict of interest and staffed and with appropriate teams;
• Meet with fee earners to understand and track their areas of pro bono interest in order to more effectively match pro bono opportunities; and
• Assist in authoring pro bono publications, guides, articles and marketing materials.
• Be an Ambassador for ensuring and maintaining an inclusive working environment;
• Chair and coordinate the MEA Diversity & Inclusion committee and working groups to maintain and endorse relevant policies;
• Align with and implement the firm's global strategy to improve D&I performance across the business;
• Partner closely with the recruitment teams to embed diversity and inclusions principles into all aspects of the recruitment and selection process;
• Work closely with HR colleagues to ensure our corporate responsibilities and diversity training is incorporated in all inductions for lateral and graduate hires; and
• Report on all diversity stats for internal and external purposes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop CSR initiatives for protecting our environmental resources;
• Support the firm's commitment to the United Nations Global Compact and Sustainability Goals development; and
• Support our external communities throughout volunteering and charity partnerships.

Requirements

Candidate's must be:
• Be currently based in the UAE
• Have near native English language skills
• Be legally qualified or have at least 2-4 years post qualification experience, ideally private practice;
• Have awareness of and strong interest in Corporate Responsibility and Inclusion in a corporate environment;
• Preferably have 1-2 years' experience in a similar role in the GCC;
• Have project management skills, including the ability to work with multiple stakeholders;
• Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Have excellent interpersonal skills and referral skills; and
• Be team-focused but also able to work independently.
