Design Director

Job description / Role

A regional Middle Eastern Retail Group who is looking to develop their own modest fashion brand is seeking a Design Director. The Design Director is responsible for creating original clothing and accessories from their own sketches. They may design their own patterns or create detailed plans for pattern makers and instruct seamstresses or manufacturers on how to make the product. We are ideally seeking an experienced designer who has designed Modest/ Middle Eastern Exclusive collections for a global brand.

*Please note there is the flexibility regarding location for this role however it is preferable for someone to relocate to the GCC*

Primary Responsibilities
* Studying trends, creating collection themes and anticipating consumer demand.
* Visiting manufacturers and trade shows for samples, selecting fabrics, colors and embellishments
* Creating prototype designs and presenting design ideas
* Using computer-aided design programs (CAD)
* Negotiating and overseeing development of collections with established designers
* Negotiate prices with suppliers to ensure competitiveness and achieve/exceed margin target
* Regularly investigate new sourcing and designing opportunities to improve margin levels, product/service quality and timeline.

Requirements

* Ideally working as Clothing designer in an established international clothing brand ready to make the next step in his/her career and join a young and dynamic organization.
* Experience in sketching and computer aided design programs (CAD).
* Good knowledge of MS Power Point, Word and Excel as well as Outlook.
* Great attention to details.
* A good eye for color, texture and shape
* An understanding of the characteristics of fabrics and how they can be used
* Technical skills such as pattern cutting and sewing
* The ability to spot and develop trends
* Work with other designers or team members to create a prototype design
* Good organizational and interpersonal skills across all levels
* Oversee the final production of their designs
* Fluency in English both written and spoken is a must
* The role will also entail regular travel both domestically and internationally.
