Emergency Power Technician - Success Profile
Reporting to: Emergency Power Supervisor
Division / Function: SME / IFS
Base location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Key purpose

On shift work watch-keeping activities, carry out electrical / mechanical works on generator systems and associated electrical mechanical systems including fuel systems as directed by the Supervisor adhering to work order instructions and standard operating procedures in compliance with HSE and QA/QC policies. Carry out PPM's and Reactive repairs to meet KPI's, statutory requirements and customer satisfaction so as not to interfere with CCAD activities.

Based on the specific requirement of the role

Key accountabilities

- Carry out operation, maintenance and repair activities on a shift work basis for the emergency generators facility in order to guarantee electrical continuity safety, integrity and reliability of the power in the facility.
- Provide operation and maintenance activities of the emergency generators and all associated electrical/mechanical and fuel systems to ensure continuity of power for the facility.
- Complete weekly running of the generators and provide inspection of all works to ensure quality of work.
- Carry out activities in accordance with Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform self-inspection of all work and to ensure conformance to planned maintenance and repair requirements.
- Conform to all necessary internal and/or external approvals before, during and after maintenance and repair work including Permit to Work and Lockout / Tag-out procedures.
- Monitor fuel consumption, collation of consumption figures, and update records as required.
- Integrate and communicate effectively with other trade staff (Mechanical, HVAC and Civil) as required.
- Maintain up to date knowledge through technical training provided by the Supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of all emergency power operation and maintenance duties.
- Ensure all areas of your responsibility are clean, tidy and all assets and building structure are in good repair and painted to promote the professionalism of the emergency generator room and associated equipment and areas
- Participate in overtime, shift work and/or out of hours working as governed by the necessity to provide the emergency power service to the client.
- Participate in the Health, Safety & Risk programs including risk assessment of planned and reactive maintenance work activities.
- Use safe systems of work when working with all generators and associated equipment and ensure the same with the department and among sub-contractors and third parties.
- Provide effective verbal, written and electronic communication with the management, client, peers, subcontractors and project subcontractors as required.
- Ensure good HSQE and Information security culture is promoted within the department and among peers.
- Carry out all other duties as directed by the line management to the benefit of the Serco FM services to the Client.

- Attend all toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Adhere to all HSE requirements and Codes of Conduct of the company.
- Adhere to all Risk Assessments / Standard Operating Procedures / Method Statements to ensure safe working practices.
- Always use the Permit To Work System and Lockout / Tag-out System where required by Risk Assessment
- Exercise a personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare, and for those affected by their acts or omissions.
- Ensure all staff use safety equipment (including PPE) as required and intended for self and observe that this is also enforced for subcontractors and third parties working under Serco contracted premises/systems.
- Lead by example and look at ways to conserve energy, water and resources and minimise the generation of waste through personal performance.
- Raise recommendations on how to improve existing safety and environmental work processes within/outside their departments through their Line Manager, Departmental Safety Meetings and any other appropriate available means.

Requirements

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

- Must hold relevant high school diploma in vocational training certificate in generators and emergency power, or equivalent experience in mechanical / electrical generator work in a previous post.
- Proficient and able to provide relevant managerial and technical support.
- Technically competent with a clear knowledge of generators and associated services and back-up power systems.
- English language skills minimum Level 18.
- Able to foster good relations with colleagues and other departments and be a good team player.
- Flexibility, excellent attention to detail and ability to identify key issues.
- Able to work under own initiative to achieve stringent deadlines in a high pressure environment.
- Minimum 5 year experience in operating generator systems and emergency power associated equipment with previous technical knowledge working in commercial buildings, banks, or hospitals.

Additional / special features of the role

- Typical physical demands include: high mobility to inspect all facilities in a high heat stress environment; high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout the facility and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Ensure compliance with the Serco Management System and all relevant business processes, procedures and work instructions to deliver all work with appropriate quality and governance standards
- Ensure security and integrity of all data provided including reporting performance, finance and customer information; reference Serco non-disclosure policy

- Ensure compliance with all training requirements of Serco and ensure adherence to these requirements at all times whilst in employment
- Report any accidents, incidents, breaches or potential breaches to appropriate management or the speak up process
