Job description / Role
Job Purpose
Provide technical support to major and minor projects in the design of electrical power generation and distribution systems in all phases of the projects until commissioning. Provide input to update DGS specifications and conduct studies and adequacies to safeguard the integrity, reliability, and availability of electrical assets throughout all company plants and electrical interfaces with other ADNOC Group companies and/or other outside companies.
Key Accountabilities
- Engineering Studies, Advice and Expertise
- Provide technical input to update company specifications to incorporate the latest industry trends and company's lessons learned.
- Provide technical support to projects group for minor upgrade/revamping projects/major projects and develop conceptual studies and prepare statement of requirements for new projects.
- Provide technical support to operation excellence team during asset life extension assessment (ALEM study), and assist site team and/or project group during replacement of obsolete equipment to have modern proven equipment at minimum risk to the operating plants.
- Witness upon project management request the factory and site acceptance tests, pre-commissioning and commissioning of equipment/systems and assure that the installation/performance are in accordance with specifications and approved for construction drawings.
- Provide technical input during the update of the maintenance and inspection policy (by operation excellence team) to comply with the international standards and vendor recommendations of the various electrical equipment to maintain their integrity and availability/reliability including the recommended scheduling and planning for the long term maintenance of these equipment.
- Conduct feasibility studies and review manufacturers' proposal solutions/recommendations to modify/upgrade the electrical equipment to maintain their reliability and high performance.
- Lead in-house studies (and support other discipline leads) to assess and provide technical resolution and recommendation for maintenance and operational issues and prepare FEED scope of work and statement of requirements where applicable.
- Conduct assessments and studies to ensure future power requirement availability for the new projects and new additional equipment will not add risk to the existing power network, in view of the ongoing expansion/upgrades projects.
- Prepare electrical technical notes with recommendations to resolve design issues arising during the implementation of major projects and also arising from operations of existing electrical distribution systems.
Job Specific Accountabilities
Communications & Working Relationships:
- Internal
- Regular work-related contact with concerned team leader and department manager as required, peer professional staff, and team members on matters related to team policies and processes, people, HSE, and domain specific issues.
- Regular contacts with same level employees and team leaders in sites as well as operations excellence and HSE divisions in HQ.
- External
- Regular contacts through project management with consultants, contractors, and vendors for coordination of projects engineering works on all phases of the project.
- Contacts with ADNOC Group for coordination of interface activities and other outside companies if assigned by his line manager.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent professional qualification.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- 6 years of experience in designing a wide range of electrical power systems and equipment within the oil and gas industry.
- Good knowledge of HV, MV & LV switchgears, MV & LV motors, EX equipment selection, UPS, and transformers to perform above mentioned key accountabilities is essential.
- Good knowledge of power system studies for large scale oil and gas projects.
- Good knowledge of electrical engineering practices, calculation methods, and design details.
- Working knowledge of international electrical codes, standards, and specifications. Design experience is preferred.
- Proven practice and familiarity with medium & high voltage systems as well as protection relay settings and manipulation.
- Awareness and implementation of the ISO 9000 QMS and environmental management system (EMS) requirements.
- Planning and organizing, scheduling and coordinating, checking, examining, and recording.
